While the story concludes in The Malloreon, minor events occur in the prequels Belgarath the Sorcerer and Polgara the Sorceress, which otherwise cover the history of the world.
As the sequel to The Belgariad, The Malloreon is set in the same world.

For me this book was slightly too long, in that there was a fair amoubt of repitition towrds the end, although divid eddings still managed to put in enough action to keep me reading almost without pause for a weekend.
Sorceress of darshiva begins to bring together the plots from the first three books of the Mallorean in preparation for the final Book of the series, yet still manages to develope the characters, and provide the odd answer to questions raised in the Belgariad.
David Eddings spent much of his life in the United States Army, as a buyer for the Boeing Company, has been a grocery clerk, and has taught college English in various parts of the United States.
If you haven't read anything by these authors, Polgara the Sorceress is a good introduction, although it does make a few assumptions about the reader's knowledge of events in The Belgariad and The Malloreon.
For those long-time fans, Polgara the Sorceress is a worthy addition to a growing collection.

Belgarion, Polgara, Belgarath and company are hot on the heels of Zandramas, the sorceress who kidnapped Belgarion's infant son way back in Book 1 "Guardians of the West".
Now the group is only a couple of days behind, but more than just finding Zandramas they have to follow the prophecy which is gearing up between a final (truly final) meeting between the Child of Light and the Child of Dark.
As the bestselling THE Mallorean series contnues, Garion is pursuing Zandramas, in the form of a great dragon flying over them, across the known world.
With the forces of evil threatening on both sides, Garion still had to get to the Place Which Is No More, as the Seeress of Kell had warned, but they had no idea where that might be....
