The ironically titled 'The Sound of Perseverance' is Death's seventh - and possibly final - studio album.
Formed in the early 80's by Chuck Schuldiner, they were one of the first death metal bands and have consistently produced top-quality albums with the help of a rotating cast of some of the most well-respected names in heavy metal.
After the Control Denied album was recorded Chuck was diagnosed with a rare form of brain-stem cancer, but has survived experimental surgery to remove the malignancy and he is now in recovery and working on another Control Denied album.

I wasn’t too keen on the Sound of Perseverance vocals at first, but I learned to fall in love with it, because at the time I hadn’t heard vocals like it before.
The Sound of Perseverance is one of those albums that divides the listeners into two groups: either you totally love it or you loathe it.
The Sound of Perseverance is Death's last studio album, although Live in L.A was released in 2001.

Combining their old sound with a fresh & more progressive sound, Death are stronger than ever.
At the risk of scaring some people away, I must say that this is what prog metal _should_ sound like: highly melodic and complex but still brutal and heavy.
The problem with the usual prog metal bands is that their "prog factor" makes them end up sounding cheesy and not metal/brutal enough.

On "The Sound?" we don't get the separate solos, we are used to when listening any band, we have solos and rhythmic guitar-work united in one whole.
This is why I really love saying that Death have gather pieces of their music together and have done the most remembering thrash album with the most coherent and full sound.
This is the most mature, true pure and-by-the-book thrash metal album, uniting technique and speed in one in a fabulous manner, producing the best creation of the dying beast of thrash metal.

If you’re a real metal fan, few events were sadder than the death of Chuck Shuldiner in 2001.
The singer, guitarist and main songwriter of Death, he is responsible, among others, for 1998’s The Sound of Perseverance, an album I bought that year, and which I simply can’t get tired of.

 The Music in my Life
I still like the new Maiden, but their newer albums sound too similar and “muddy” to me. The Number of the Beast, they aren’t.
Meanwhile, Bruce released a couple of strange albums, which, although they had some great songs here and there, revealed a guy who was trying as hard as he could to prove (perhaps most of all to himself?) that he wasn’t “just about metal”.
If you know the comic, you won’t be able to avoid remembering it, seeing it in your mind, as you listen to this album.

Needless to say, I was immensely eager to hear what the 1998 incarnation of Death would bring.
"The Sound of Perseverance" is the greatest album that Chuck has ever recorded, and one of the best albums of the year.
I could ramble on about "Sound of Perseverance" all day, but I won't waste your time.

I actually think it takes on its own sound, de-raling from the death metal norm, its more of a positive record.
Freezer: I compared them and yeah your right, im to lazy to see who made it first and to tell you the truth I dont really care because both bands have enough integraty to not rip off one another.
Lots of solos sound the same because most the time there just going really fast through scales but in slightly diffrent patterns.
