Topic: Soundproofing

Soundproofing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sound proofing is any mechanism used to reduce the conduction of sound through a barrier or into a soundproofed chamber.
There are several different basic approaches to reducing sound: increasing space in which the sound dissipates, using massive barriers to absorb the energy of the sound waves, using dampening structures such as sound baffles, or using active antinoise sound generators.
The energy density of sound waves decrease as they spread out, so increasing the distance between the soundproofed space and the source of noise will result in a smaller amount of sound reaching it.

 SOUNDPROOFING YOUR BATHROOM
Now granted, we don't get a lot of calls for bathroom soundproofing, however, there are those of you out there who would rather not hear or deal with (invasive) bathroom noise, especially while trying to sleep.
Soundproofing a bathroom is relatively easy due to the fact that it is not really feasible to float walls or ceilings, when bathroom space is so precious.
You now have a state of the art soundproofed bathroom, and will now be the envy of all your neighbors.

Missoulian - Soundproofing can be made simple
Though you may not have a chiller to deal with, a neighbor's barking dog, a teenage band practicing down the street or even a loud stereo or television in the next room are all potential sources of unwanted noise that could be disturbing.
However, keep in mind that soundproofing your home from unwanted noise can range from a few simple improvements to a complex undertaking, depending upon the construction of your home and the origin of the noise.
Soundproofing a ceiling (where there is an attic above) can be as simple as adding a layer of wallboard - provided that the ceiling joist will carry the added load.

Soundproof Walls for Recording Studio and Home Theaters
One of the most common soundproof walls that can be built, using materials right out of the local home building store is to add sound deadening board to the faces of the studs.
It reduces the airborne clatter inside the wall, it adds a gap of material between the gypboard and the stud which breaks the conduction of sound path.
And finally soundproofing is not only good for the walls, it is good for the floor and the ceiling.

Home Improvement: An Overview of Do-It-Yourself Soundproofing
If you’re planning to soundproof your home and are considering different types of elements for the outside covering, you may wish to consider using stucco, brick or stone surfacing.
One of the best materials that can be used for soundproofing a ceiling is a resilient channel, which is simply a z-shaped piece of steel that will retard the vibration or noise through the overhead structure.
Although standard insulation material tends to reduce the effects of soundproofing (due to the filling up of space, which would have helped to buffer the noise), one effective method for providing insulation while reducing sound is using spray-on silicone insulation.
