Fripp's contribution of two hours worth of treated guitar work (his trademark "Frippertronics") formed the basis for Fayman's layering of interwoven electronic soundscapes.

His solo work is more of a personal and professional quest than anything else: his innovative guitar-looping technique (first introduced to him in analogue form by Eno) has, in the guise of "Frippertronics" (and later "Soundscapes"), shaped his approach to business practice in the music industry and his approach to music itself.
A superlative guitarist, Robert Fripp has been performing music professionally since 1968.
With Fripp, this mode of expression is more overtly stated, the serious approach to the guitar as a respectable instrument while still working in the pop / rock field is notable.

But in the clear fame-ocracy of media New York, it was implicitly but entirely understood that when Robert Fripp (co-genius behind King Crimson, collaborator with David Bowie and Peter Gabriel and Brian Eno, respected guitar virtuoso) decided a blessing was in order, there would be no catcalls from the cheap booths.

Amazon.com: Music: Soundscapes 2: Blessing of Tears [LIVE]
Robert Fripp's "A Blessing of Tears" consists of improvised live performances from Fripp's solo soundscapes tour in the beginning of 1995.
It is fragile and often of stunning beauty, in particular on this album-- "A Blessing of Tears" is a reflection on the death of Fripp's mother, whose eulogy (by the guitarist) is included in the liner notes.
Blessing of Tears is not just noise, however, not the chaotic guitar fury of his work in King Crimson or even the Soundscaping white noise of the other two discs in the 1995 trilogy.

Robert Fripp -- A Messing of Years
In 1994, Fripp undertook his "first solo tour in over eleven years." The first CD issued with this material was called simply 1999, with the descriptive subtitle, "Soundscapes - Live in Argentina." Sometimes I've seen this listed as 1999 Soundscapes - Live in Argentina which is obviously incorrect.
The GSTQ part of that album contained three Frippertronics loops, one of which was entitled "1983." That was the start of his using years as titles for his solo pieces.
The next album, Let The Power Fall, consisted of six Frippertronics pieces (from the 1979 tour), entitled, "1984," "1985," "1986," "1987," "1988," and "1989."

 Frippertronics-era Robert Fripp: Let's Discuss
To be fair he's not calling it Frippertronics anymore, the 90's records are adorned with the phrase 'Soundscapes'.
'Frippertronics is defined as that musical experience which results at the (intersection) of Robert Fripp and a small and appropriate level of technology which is my Les Paul, the Fripple board, the Fripp pedal board of fuzz, wah-wah and volume pedals and two Revoxes.'

 The Birth of Loop
The next incarnation of Frippertronics was called Soundscapes and employed a growing array of sophisticated digital machinery, such as digital looping devices and harmonizers.
For Fripp, Frippertronics was a powerful way to open himself up for music and to explore new musical territory.
Due to Fripp's quasi-cult-status as King Crimson guitarist, the Frippertronics tours and records brought the idea of looping to many musicians' attention.

Just when you thought you didn’t need another King Crimson live album, out comes the two-disc VROOOM VROOOM, the definitive concert recording of 1995-96’s Double Trio line-up — two guitarists (Robert Fripp and Adrian Belew), two ‘bassists’ (Tony Levin and Trey Gunn), and two drummers (Bill Bruford and Pat Mastelotto).
The Stick interlude “Two Sticks” sets the mood before plowing into “Elephant Talk.” Belew takes to the piano for a Beatles cover of “Free As A Bird,” and the band closes the proceedings with the emotively unruffled “Walking On Air,” masterfully exuding Fripp’s soundscapes through to the coda.
With this and all of these live albums plus the scads that’re restricted to members of the Collectors’ Club, King Crimson are quickly becoming the Grateful Dead of progressive rock.

The dark, intense angularity that is a Crimson trademark is offset by a couple of ethereal, ambient electronic soundscapes, but there's plenty of hard-prog thrashing for those who were turned on to the band by their tour with heavy rockers Tool.
King Crimson: Adrian Belew (vocals, guitar); Trey Gunn (guitar, fretless bass); Robert Fripp (guitar); Pat Mastelotto (drums, programming).
Along the way, Fripp, Adrian Belew and company also manage to venture more fully than ever into the Balinese Gamelan sound they first began exploring on 1981's DISCIPLINE, and drummer Pat Mastelloto throws in some electronic flavors that nod to drum-and-bass and garage beats.

Bass Communion music is made almost entirely without the use of synthesizers, using in preference sampled source material from actual live performances, some of which has been provided by Robert Fripp (guitar soundscapes) and Theo Travis (saxophones, flutes).
A full-length CD album will be released by the Soleilmoon label towards the end of 2004.
Although not credited as such, this was essentially a Bass Communion album of a more accessible and friendly nature, containing eighteen short pieces of atmospheric music (used as incidental or background music on TV and radio worldwide) as well as 60- and 30-second edits of each piece.

In the latter years Rieflin has worked with musicians associated with King Crimson, and on his debut album Birth Of A Giant, both Robert Fripp (guitar and soundscapes) and Trey Gunn (Warr guitar) contribute.
Bill Rieflin handles most of the remaining instruments, and besides being a first class drummer and percussionist, he also proves to be a competent vocalist with a voice slightly resembling David Sylvian.
