Source engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
However, whilst in theory all Source engine games and mods were able to use HDR immediately after its release the game code required to 'hook in' to the new system was not made available to modders until eleven months later, on August 4 2006.
As a part of the Source engine's transition to next-generation consoles, multiprocessor optimisations have been added, resulting in faster processing on PC hardware with dual or quad core systems and the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.
The Source Engine uses a caching system, whereby the loading of certain resources is handled and managed on the fly, rather than in a single operation behind a traditional loading screen.

The Source Engine BSP File Format
This structure identifies the file as a Valve Source Engine BSP file, identifies the version of the format, and is then followed by a directory listing of the location, length, and version of up to 64 subsections of the file, known as lumps, that store different parts of the map data.
As I understand it, it seems from the HL2 SDK source that this situation may also occur during the compilation of HL2 maps; however, after the VVIS compile process is finished these adjacent leaves (and their parent nodes) are merged into a single leaf.
Once the engine knows a cluster is visible, the leaf data references all faces present in that cluster, allowing the contents of the cluster to be rendered.

Whilst the level recreations are stunning compared to the original Half-Life engine versions, they still appear to be a bit angular, and the use of bump-mapping, whilst somewhat effective, fails to create the sense of depth and complexity that Doom 3 managed so well.
Despite the lack of a true light-source based engine, shadows are surprisingly convincing, and whilst again they don't rival Doom 3, this was an essential engine omission as both Half-Life 2 and CS: Source make extensive use of large outdoor environments where light sources are very hard to recreate.
Source is bloodier than its predecessor, and the blood flies more convincingly than I've ever seen before, smearing surfaces chillingly (or satisfyingly, depending on whether you were involved in spilling it).

The engine, though designed for simplicity and elegance as opposed to feature and eyecandy checklists, still competes nicely thanks to its novel "6-directional heighfield deformable cube octree" world structure that is the basis for its in-game editing.
Cube is also smaller in every way, in download, in hardware requirements (runs well on older video cards!), and in source code (the absolutely tiny code base is a very easy start for those wishing to experiment).
It also has some unique engine features such as the high precision dynamic occlusion culling, and its heighfield based level format.

Search engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A search engine or search service is a document retrieval system designed to help find information stored on a computer system, such as on the World Wide Web, inside a corporate or proprietary network, or in a personal computer.
Most Web search engines are commercial ventures supported by advertising revenue and, as a result, some employ the controversial practice of allowing advertisers to pay money to have their listings ranked higher in search results.
A recent enhancement to search engine technology is the addition of geocoding and geoparsing to the processing of the ingested documents being indexed, to enable searching within a specified locality (or region).
