South Carolina's 1980 AIAW Final Four and WNIT championship team, which compiled a 30-6 record, was ranked fifth in the final poll.
Johnson is the only player in South Carolina history to average more than 20 points per game for three consecutive seasons, as she averaged 23.5 ppg as a sophomore in 1993-94, 23.9 ppg as a junior in 1994-95 and a school-record 24.7 ppg as a senior in 1995-96.
In the 1940's and 1950's, the women's basketball teams were allowed to organize into teams by themselves and after the championships were awarded, the WAA gave public exhibitions in all of the University's Co-Ed sports of basketball, swimming and volleyball.

Senda Berenson, the "Mother of Women's Basketball" and its first female entrant, and William (Red) Holzman, who coached in the NBA for 18 years, were inducted into the International Basketball Hall of Fame in 1985 and 1986.

The first Futsal World Championship conducted under the auspices of FIFUSA (before its members integrated into FIFA in 1989) was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1982, with Brazil finishing in first place.
The Fourth FIFA Futsal World Championship was held in Guatemala between November 18 to December 4th, 2000.
The national organization adopted the sport, and it is now played at about 1,100 Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the U.S. The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) also plays the sport in a close working relationship with U.S. Futsal since 1988.
