When his "History of the American People" was published -- in spite of the title it is a fairly naked political attempt to ward off decades of fascinating progressive scholarship of 'history from the bottom up' -- reviews in even the general UK press were dedicated to ridiculing the book's laughably numerous factual errors.
Forget the one volume history and go to James MacGregor Burns's three volume series, "The American Experiment" It is a faster and better read than most of the one volumes and strikes a balance between the limitations of a short survey and the in-depth coverage of detailed histories covering a short period.
This book is an extraordinary survey of American history educational texts and how their content has been used and abused as power shifted over the years.

Well might embattled Americans, weary of warfare in the land of the Holy Sepulcher, yearn for the simple “family” issues propounded in the cultural politics of the 1980s and 1990s— mere programmatic courtship directed at low and middle-income voters stressed by two-earner households, lengthened work hours, day care and tax pressures.
No American presidential family can be royal—the Constitution, to begin with,  specifies that “No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States.” However,  the family’s triple predilection for  royal genealogy, restoration and de facto dynasty is an extraordinary  coincidence.

A Historical Overview of American Soccer History
Like Soccer, Basketball had established an American Basketball League in the 1920's, their first truly national league, only to see it fold during the early depression years to be revived as the ABL II on a smaller scale.
The event garnered unprecedented press coverage in the American Media, and though the naysayers vented their disparagement towards the game, many other people discovered the game for the first time, and were primed for the arrival of Major league Soccer two years down the road.
This ensured Americans would have adequate playing time to develop their talent and avoid the mistakes of the NASL with regard to spiraling salaries for foreigners with Americans warming the bench.
