Most of Bedfordshire's rocks are clays and sandstones from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, with some limestone.

The public is being invited to explore the historical church buildings in south Bedfordshire this summer, following directions on a special leaflet from the council.
South Bedfordshire District Council is funding this special series of Church Trails, to help attract more visitors to local villages and stimulate the rural economy, which, as was made clear during the recent Foot and Mouth outbreak, is heavily dependent on income from tourism and leisure.
The idea is that on the first Sunday of each month, through to September, the churches on this trail will be open to welcome members of the public.
