In 1844 he was located at Birmingham, Pennsylvania, in 1845-46 he had charge at Hollidaysburg, in 1847-48 of Bellefonte, in 1849-50 of Danville, in 1851-52 of Williamsport, in 1853 of Staunton, Virginia, in 1854-55 of the church at Columbia street station, Baltimore, and from 1856 to 1859 he was in the Northumland district.
He assisted in the survey of the Tangascootac and Sinnemahoning extensions of the Pennsylvania canal, also in the construction of the Williamsport and Elmira railroad, now the Northern Central, and later was engaged in locating the eastern and western reservoirs of the canal, and was afterwards engineer in charge of the canal for several years.
Campbell was married in 1847, to Encie, daughter of Elijah Deputy of Tioga county, Pennsylvania.

 History of Bethlehem
As the Moravian Brethren in their new settlement, Bethlehem, desired, as far as practicable, to observe a policy of non-intercourse with people of other religious denominations, they decided to purchase land on this side of the river in order to exclude undesirable neighbors.
Brodhead discarding both the town names, Augusta and Wetherill, and designating his lands as in "the southern addition of Bethlehem." It was about this time that the new town was given its third name, Bethlehem South, by which it was known until after 1865.
The population at the time of incorporation is not known, but that the increase in numbers was remarkably rapid may be inferred from the fact that the census returns of 1870 shows a population here of 3,556.

Looking south on Pennsylvania 378 (former Interstate 378 from 1968 to 1971), the final exit is Exit 3, West North Street, which provides access to the Center City of Bethlehem.
The route is freeway south to the Lehigh River bridge; the university is located on the south bank of the river along Pennsylvania 412/Third Street east.

William Bacon Stevens, DD., Bishop of Pennsylvania, as the Diocese of Bethlehem had not at that time been separated from that of Pennsylvania, it was re-named "Bishopthorpe", the term signifying a Bishop's demesne, after the country seat of the Archbishop of York, England, where he had recently been a visitor.
When the Diocese of Bethlehem was organized in 1871 it became the owner of the property.
In 1863 Father McEnroe started the English congregation in South Bethlehem and built a church on the site of the present Church of the Holy Infancy at the southeast corner of Fourth and Locust Streets, the lot of ground having been donated to the congregation by the United Brethren (Moravian Society) of Bethlehem.
