As part of the S.H.A.R.E. campaign to modernize local health care, the deteriorating Crouse Irving Hospital building was superseded in 1976 by the new "Irving Unit," attached to the "Memorial Unit," the former Syracuse Memorial Hospital, so that all services would be located under one roof at 736 Irving Avenue.
The former hospital building at 820 South Crouse Avenue was first converted to an educational building, then demolished in 1991 when the present Harry and Lillian Marley Education Center opened.
In 1996 Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital became Crouse Hospital, and the parent corporation, Crouse Irving Companies, became Crouse Health.

The South Crouse Cafe will open in December and will feature a chef providing a full menu until 1 a.m., and a patio, said Charles Falgiatano, attorney for owners Janov and Kamaney.
Janov and Kemaney tried to open South Crouse Cafe last November, but were denied permits required to open a restaurant, said Antonio Pinti, the owner of the strip mall where the new cafe will be located.
The cafe is continuing with preparations for opening despite concern from SU and the Southeast University Neighborhood Association.

Pinti, a Syracuse native who also owns South Crouse’s Hair Trends, said the new plaza will offer a alternative to the prototype Marshall Street atmosphere.

Our Temple was founded in 1867 by a group of young men, most of whom had emigrated from Neustadt, Poland, a town just across the German border.
In 1922, when a larger structure was completed at South Crouse Avenue and Harrison Street, the congregation incorporated as Temple Adath Yeshurun.
Almost 50 years later, on June 20, 1971, the present spacious Temple dominating the hill on Kimber Road, was dedicated.

When I was a student at Syracuse University, the only bar close to campus was The Orange, on South Crouse Avenue, just around the corner from Marshall Street.
Hapless and dateless, I generally drank downstairs at the bar, but by my senior year I had managed to attract some female companionship and on occasion would venture upstairs to the larger back room with its jukebox, booths, and Esther.
We left quietly, in awe of the Queen of the Orange.
