		The Council for National Parks made the suggestion that wherever possible a national park authority should work with existing landowners to achieve national park purposes rather than acquiring land to achieve that end and they pointed out that this is consistent with the Edward's Committee, 1991, advice on land acquisition by national park authorities.

		National Park budgets are provided by Government, 75 per cent directly through the National Parks Grant and the remaining 25 per cent through the revenue support grant to local authorities.

		The Campaign is currently asking people to lobby their local councilors, asking them to support the South Downs National Park and not to waste public money opposing it or fighting for areas to be excluded from the National Park.
		Friends of the Earth is part of a network of groups called the South Downs Campaign.
