In five European Union Member States (Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy and the United Kingdom), the national territory is divided into a number of constituencies for European elections.
The population of constituencies varies widely across the union.
Currently, the German speaking community of Belgium are the most represented in the EU Parliament with one seat for their 71,000 population, while the people of Sardinia and Sicily are the least represented, with only one seat per 943,000 people.

The South East Green Party has written to all major Chambers of Commerce(1) in the South East Region, and to the Director-General of the CBI, urging them to support energy conservation and renewable energy and to condemn the nuclear power option as too expensive.
The Green Party is fielding 31 candidates in the South East Region in the General Election and 202 in Britain.
South East Greens have noted a significant number of omissions and a lack of resources to support many aspects of the Plan.

This position is based upon the belief in a multicultural European society which holds up the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, and which strives to achieve a balance between personal freedom and respect and equality for all.
I have just been elected chairman of the European Parliament's cross-party Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup, where I am sure the ban will be the subject of much discussion, and I shall continue to raise the issue whenever possible in the European Parliament.

Distinguished Sri Lankan born politician, Niranjan de Silva Deva-Aditya has been returned to office for five year term as a Member of the European Parliament for South East England with a majority of 607,000 over his nearest opponent.
Deva, who first served as a Member of the British Parliament between 1992 and 1997 was first elected to serve the mainly-rural constituency of South East England, where average yearly earnings are in excess of $70,000 in 1999.
His winning majority of 607,000 votes, on a thirty six percent turnout in a constituency of seven million electors is a massive increase on his 1999 margin of victory which was a narrow 109,640 votes.

The South East was the only region where we had two sitting MEPs to defend and also includes eight of our Westminster seats.
This was particularly the case in the Eastleigh South ward, a key target and one of only four Labour-held seats on the council.
In the South East as a whole our vote held up and both Lib Dem MEPs were successfully re-elected, while Labour and the Conservatives each lost a European seat.
