After the WHITBURN family settled in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, Mabel attended school at Matthew Flinders School, Myers Street, Geelong, with her brothers, (the school being co-ed at that time) then at Newtown State School, Aberdeen Street, both being within short walking distance of their homes (this was approximately 1912/1913).
Concerts, at the Sunday school at South Geelong, in which her family participated, were relished, and very often she would have made the costumes which they wore.
The London and South Western railway arrived in 1849 and by the 1870's the suburban railway explosion signalled the final abandonment of Chiswick mansions, the destruction of its gardens, and the rapid building of estates that were to house generations of commuters.

The stadium is the home ground of the Geelong Football Club which began playing home games at Kardinia Park in 1941 after its previous home ground, Corio Oval, was needed for military reasons.
A favourite for the honour of the naming of the new stand was Bob Davis, coach of the Cats' last premiership side in 1963.
On June 15, 2005, City of Greater Geelong councillors granted the club its wish to change the name of the new eastern stand to the Reg Hickey Stand, while the southern stand became the Doug Wade Stand.
