On February 18, 1769, the Pennsylvania Assembly passed an act appointing three men “to settle and fix the boundary line dividing the counties of Lancaster, Cumberland and Berks, and between the counties of Berks and Northampton…” The vast additional territory to the northwest became Augusta Township, Berks County.
One of the twenty-four newer townships was a part of Chester County and was added to Berks in 1753, and the remaining twenty-three were created by subdividing some of the original twenty townships.
The Compromise established a boundary between the slave states of the south and the free states of the north (however it's separation of Maryland and Delaware is a bit confusing since Delaware was a slave state that stayed in the Union).

The huge success of South Park, and the fact the facility occupies roughly one-third of the community's total area, eventually prompted a 1966 referendum in which the township was renamed.
South Park, a 1,999 acre (3.1 mi²) recreational area operated by Allgheny County, is located mostly within the boundaries of South Park Township, although a portion is located in adjacent Bethel Park.

 Historical Society of Berks County - South Mountain Resorts
Nestled against the slopes of South Mountain, a few miles due west of Reading, there are many imposing structures dotting the green of the forests and glades of the elevations that rim the Lebanon Valley.
The first person to be attracted to South Mountain with a view to establishing a health center was Dr. Charles E. Leisenring, a native of Germany.
At one point, in 1868, he records that he was "at the point of death." He attributed his own recovery to a combination of pure air, fresh water, exercise, the Swedish movement, massage, and electrical applications of various types.

Spurred by their new recycling mandate, South Heidelberg intends to implement an effective recycling and waste collection program that meets Act 101 and PA DEP requirements.
As of April 2003, Pike and District Townships were in the process of developing a cooperative drop-off recycling program for these two municipalities, inviting any surrounding interested municipalities to join in.
Because of the rural nature of the Townships and the small population, a coordinated effort between multiple municipalities would help to reduce the cost of such a recycling program for this agricultural area.
