Sønderjyllands Amt (English: South Jutland County) is a county in southern Denmark, on the peninsula of Jutland.
The name refers specifically to the southernmost 30 kilometers of the Danish part of the Jutland Peninsula that used to be a part of the former Duchy of Schleswig (Danish: Slesvig), a fief under the Danish Crown.
Denmark lost the Duchy of Schleswig as well as the Duchies of Holstein and Lauenburg to Prussia and Austria in 1864 in the Second War of Schleswig.

This article presents the results obtained to date from the archaeological and geological investigations undertaken in the period 1985-91 at Slotseng, South Jutland, in connection with a group of Late Palaeolithic settlements from the Hamburgian and Federmesser cultures.
This quickly proved to be the case, although in an unexpected manner: during a general examination of the Stone Age material in the store rooms of Haderslev Museum during 1985, it was found that a flint assemblage acquired by the museum as early as 1962 is from the Hamburgian Culture.
This is the extreme western edge of the East Jutland late moraine landscape, formed during the Weichselian glaciation.

In the south western parts of Jutland the soil are sandy due to sediments from the large rivers of melting water running out from the glaciers and the landscape is rather flat.
The rest of Jutland and the danish isles are generally built up of sediments deposited through melting of the ice cap (morain).
Because of the land rising most of North Jutland has risen from the sea since the last ice age and the soils are sandy except the highest plateaus where the soil are loamy or clayey.
