		South Park is a high intermontane grassland basin, approximately 10000 ft (3000 m) in elevation, in the Rocky Mountains of central Colorado.
		South Park City, a living museum outside Fairplay, provides a historical recreation of the gold rush days.
		The basin was connected to Denver by railroad with the extension of the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad over Kenosha Pass in 1879.

	Nevada - Great Basin National Park
		The foothills of the park are at an elevation of 6,000 feet - part of the Great Basin Desert of Nevada, an area dry for most of the year and characterised by long wide valleys interspersed by narrow mountain ridges running generally north-south.
		Approach: The park is close to US 50, supposedly 'The Loneliest Road in America', and the only trans Nevada route that crosses into Utah for 210 miles, between I-80 in the north and NV 319/UT 56 further south.
		Just beyond the park entrance, a ten mile scenic drive ascends 3,400 feet into the mountains, with excellent views of the surrounding forests and canyons, and across to the desert in the distance.

	USGS Colorado Water Resources--South Platte River Basin
		Altitude in the basin ranges from 14,286 ft at Mt. Lincoln on the Continental Divide to 2,750 ft. at the confluence of the South Platte and North Platte Rivers.
		The basin has a continental-type climate modified by topography, in which there are large temperature ranges and irregular seasonal and annual precipitation.
		In contrast, the annual precipitation on the plains east of Denver, Colorado, and in the South Park area in the southwest part of the basin, ranges from 7 to 15 in.

		Kodachrome Basin is on the outer edge of the newly formed Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, a remote area of desert and canyons carved into the Vermilion, White, Grey and Pink Cliffs of southern Utah.

		Without actions to correct the land loss and habitat degradation in the Barataria Basin, another fifth of the basin's wetlands may be converted to open water by the year 2045.

		The City of Aurora is proposing to develop a part of the ground-water resources in the vicinity of the a sportsmen's ranch, located in the South Park Basin, Park County, Colorado.
		Aurora's plan, entitled the "South Park Conjunctive Use Project" (SPCUP), would make use of aquifer withdrawals during average and dry years and would recharge the aquifer with surplus surface water during wet years.
		The South Park Formation of Tertiary age would be the source of ground water.

		Kodachrome Basin is a small, popular state park situated a few miles south of UT 12 due east of Bryce Canyon, and reached by a paved road.
		Surroundings: The surrounding country is also worth exploring, for example to see Grosvenor Arch, one of the largest of such structures in the state, which is located 10 miles southeast.
		Dirt tracks lead from the near the park into a large wilderness area, at the south edge of which is Lake Powell.

		There are several parking lots at Big Basin, but park visitation is high, so plan on arriving early on weekends to ensure parking.
		In the park's backcountry, you're prone to encounter backpackers hiking the Skyline to the Sea Trail, a whopping 28 mile journey.
		Although the park is divine in the quieter months of winter and early spring, roads accessing Big Basin are prone to mud slides, so you may want to check road conditions on the Caltrans website before leaving home.
