 Seeing The Light - North Point Lighthouse
After gas lights were installed throughout the park, and housing development spread to the west, mariners complained that the North Point light’s long flash period made it difficult to differentiate between the lighthouse and the growing number of city lights.
The North Point light was electrified in 1929, and with the only light-related duties being the polishing of the lens brass and glass, Johnson’s duties became more akin to those of a groundskeeper and caretaker than light keeper.
North Point Lighthouse Friends, a 501(c)3 non profit organization was formed in 2002 with their charter being the restoration of the historic lighthouse, and plan on opening the structure to the public in 2005.

The first phase, concentrated on the city side of the highway overpass that bisects the park, will start soon and is expected to be completed by the end of 2007, in time for the gala celebration of Pittsburgh's 250th birthday in 2008.
Not everyone is as enamored with all aspects of the project or its progress, especially with the plans to fill in the 8-foot-deep trench surrounding the park's reconstructed Music Bastion, a part of which was excavated in 1965 and the remainder reconstructed to simulate Fort Pitt's original walls.

Point State Park, a national historical site, will undergo a $4.5 million upgrade to install new electrical and water lines and permanent utility hookups for vendors to use during major events.
The project is the first phase of park renovations developed by a public-private partnership among the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Riverlife Task Force and a handful of local foundations.
The group prepared a master plan for refurbishing the park in stages, beginning this year, followed by $21 million in work proposed for future years, to include rebuilding the fountain, installing boat docks and extending the Allegheny Passage trail system along the city sides of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers.

The bay on the east shore of South Manitou is the first natural harbor when sailing north out of Chicago and this bay was so popular it was often referred to as the Forest of Masts.

The commercial district, we have a burgeoning commercial district in downtown South Park, we have more businesses that have opened there, more stores and more restaurants that are open but those businesses and restaurants are dependent on the traffic that comes into and out of the neighborhood over that bridge.
It won't destroy it per say, but there's a vibrant stretch of the downtown south park industrial district that is essentially from Cloverdale to Dallas on the north side of 14th Ave.
If the South Park bridge was to be removed under the no action alternative, these que's would be a lot longer because the bridge currently serves between 20-and -24 thousand vehicles per day and a lot of them would travel over the First South bridge.

Four concrete anchoring pads were cast in place at Chequamegon Point, and the skeleton iron tower was erected to the point at which it was ready to receive the light.
Consisting of a white square pyramidal skeleton iron tower surmounted by a square watchroom and octagonal fl lantern, a fog bell was suspended from an exterior wall of the watchroom, and operated by a Stevens fog bell apparatus housed within the watchroom.
With wave action threatening to undermine the foundation of the Chequamegon Point tower in 1987, the structure was suspended beneath a Coast Guard helicopter and dragged back from the eroding shoreline to its present position.
