It is bordered to the west by the East Province, to the north by the Centre Province, to the northeast by the Littoral Province, to the west by the Gulf of Guinea (part of the Atlantic Ocean), and to the south by the countries of Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Congo.
The most populated area is the central region south of Cameroon's capital, Yaoundé, in the neighbouring Centre Province and extending south to Ebolowa, west to Kribi, and east to Sangmélima.
The South is one of Cameroon's most economically robust areas due to its numerous plantations and the tourism generated by its scenic beaches.

 Beti-Pahuin
Fang territories begin at the southern edge of Cameroon south of Kribi, Djoum, and Mvangan in the South Province and continue south across the border, including all of Rio Muni in Equatorial Guinea and south into Gabon and Congo.
These peoples are primarily concentrated in the Ntem and Dja and Lobo divisions of Cameroon's South Province, though they also live as far north as the Upper Sanaga and Nyong and Mfoumou divisions in the Centre Province and as far east as the Upper Nyong division in the East Province.
At one point, they were thought to have migrated into the territory of present-day Cameroon from the Azande area of Sudan, but the current belief is that they originated in the forests south of the Sanaga River, not far from their current territory.

Northern Cameroon suffers from ethnic tensions between the Fulani (or Peuhl), a Muslim group that conquered most of the region 200 years ago, and the "Kirdi," the descendents of diverse groups who then practiced traditional indigenous religions and whom the Fulani conquered or displaced, justifying their conquest on religious grounds.

The UNEP is working to develop great ape conservation strategies in all of the 23 states in Africa and South East Asia that have populations of humankind's closet living relatives.  These national strategies are being developed in close consultation with governments, wildlife groups and local communities.
The story of how Brighter and Twiggy came to be bought in the Sabon Gari animal market in Kano by a businessman of Middle Eastern origin is shrouded in mystery.  But it is believed that they were born in south or east Cameroon and captured by poachers when they were around two years old.
To return them to Cameroon has required the authorities to issue special permits under the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species which is a UNEP-linked convention.  The convention's secretariat has given enthusiastic support to the repatriation.

The Center took an active part in the world environment day in Buea, which was opened by the Governor of the South West Province (Cameroon).
Also the Cameroonian print media showed interest in our education and conservation efforts and we were glad to receive the visit of two journalists working for the Cameroon Tribune and the Herald Newspaper.
Now that its school holidays, school children and their parents are pooling in through out the day to see wildlife conservation in action.

The resource is being greatly over-exploited in the Mount Cameroon area, and both villagers and commercial plantations have expressed interest in the project supporting better management, including providing seeds for on-farm and plantation plantings.
Many restaurants in Cameroon offer special dishes containing G. africanum leaves, and large quantities are carried in boats to Nigeria from where a proportion is exported to Europe and the USA with exponential price increases.
Within Cameroon the opportunities for large companies or individuals to contribute to the Limbe Botanic Garden Fund are limited by the poor financial conditions, and resulting low profit margins.
