South Quay station opened in 1987, and is a standard DLR phase 1 elevated station, subsequently extended to permit the use of 2 car trains.
South Quay is a Docklands Light Railway station on the Isle of Dogs, in London.

The station is in Travelcard Zone 2, and is on the Lewisham branch of the DLR, between Canary Wharf and South Quay.
The station was moved 200 metres south (to fit inside the new buildings) and a longer platform was built at this new site to accommodate three-unit trains planned as part of the DLR Capacity Enhancement; the station re-opened in December 2002.
Heron Quays is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station on the Isle of Dogs in east London.

Oyster Pre-Pay is also available on the DLR - passengers need to both touch in and touch out their Oyster cards on the readers at the entrance / exit to the platforms, or pass through the automatic gates at selected stations.
This was met by an extension of the DLR from Island Gardens in tunnel under the River Thames to Greenwich and then on a new elevated route paralleling Deptford Creek to an interchange at the major rail junction of Lewisham.
In response to this, all stations and trains were extended to two-car lengths, and the system extended into the heart of the City of London with a tunnelled extension into Bank underground station, which opened in 1991.

Heron Quays is a simple station with 2 side platforms, after which the tracks turn to the east to South Quay station with 2 heavily used side platforms.
A short swim or a short trip on the DLR further south is the Canary Wharf station right next to the Canary Wharf Tower, one of the largest office buildings in Europe.
It's the only DLR station where there's a platform on both sides of the train which makes it possible to walk from one platform to the other trough the train instead of down and up the stairs or escalators.

A couple of tips - if you need to use the Jubilee Line on the Underground, there is a footbridge over to the station on Canary Wharf: turn off past where they're building the new Hilton by South Quay DLR station.
For some trips, of course, the DLR will be a more convenient way in to central London.
I suspect your rooms will be pre-allocated but try for rooms on the higher floors that have great views of Canary Wharf (The UK's tallest building) or The Millennium Dome or of south London.
