The South Waikato District is a municipality located between the cities of Hamilton to the north and Rotorua to the south east in the North Island of New Zealand.
South Waikato District Community Outcomes were published on 10 July 2006 in the Long Term Council Community Plan 2006-2016 under the provisions of the Section 91 of the Local Government Act 2002.
As at the 2006 census, the district's population was 22,641, of whom 65% lived in Tokoroa.

Environment Waikato and the South Waikato District Council have granted air discharge and land use consents to expand a broiler chicken farm.
T and F Collings currently operate two broiler sheds and applied to the District Council for a land use consent to erect two additional broiler sheds encroaching the front, side and rear yard requirements of South Waikato’s Operative District Plan.
South Waikato District Council staff recommended granting the land use application, but declining the side and rear dispensations.

Monitoring and management activities on the surface of the Waikato River associated with the Huntly Power Station operations are permitted activities in the Waikato District Plan.

 Recreation & Tourism in the South Waikato
The District is strategically located between the world famous Waitomo Caves to the west and the equally famous boiling mud and cultural tourism of Rotorua to the east, with a significant numbers of tourist buses travelling daily through Putaruru and Arapuni.
The well known Te Waihou Walkway (www.putaruru.co.nz) attracts thousand of visitors eager to enjoy the stunning local environment en route to the pristine spring which is the source of 70% of New Zealand’s bottled water; and a major walking and cycling trail is currently under construction.
The Waikato River Trail (www.southwaikato.com) will ultimately extend 100km along the banks of the Waikato River and six lakes in our District, with the first section - from Arapuni village to Jones’ Landing on the shore of Lake Arapuni – opened on the 5th December 2004.

It is proposed by ERTU that the majority of the costs under the TOWA fall on the Waikato SOE, because they control the release of water through the Taupo Control Gates and therefore have a greater control over the management of Lake Taupo.
The Waikato River Flood Management Rules (the rules) are a set of instructions that advise power station operators how to operate a power station and/or Lake Taupo Control Gates during a flood.
It was agreed that the basis for continuation would be separate agreements between Ngati Tuwharetoa and the Waikato SOE and Ngati Tuwharetoa and Huntly SOE that "replicate" the existing Heads of Agreement and split the relevant costs between the two SOEs.

 TOKOROA CULTURE ON DISPLAY
An exhibition entitled Homeboy/homegirl ’04: Tokoroa Reprezent, curated by Leafa/Janice Wilson and sponsored by the South Waikato District Council, is running at Waikato University’s WEL Energy Trust Academy of Performing Arts till 29 August.
The colourful ‘Toke’ pop art of Cynthia Kapene, the witty steel sculptures of Dan Buckley, the beautiful tivaevae of 72 year old Patisipa Daniels and the extraordinary set designs of Vanya Crockerare just some of the works in this diverse display.
The curator and Tokoroa artist, Leafa/Janice Wilson set out to show how this group of artists had been shaped by the unique cultural environment of this creative south Waikato town.
