North Carolina is one of the few states to experiment with the inheritance tax, but the last law dealing with that subject was repealed in 1899.

North Carolina railroading offers a wide variety of operations, found in few other Southeastern states; from coastal and mountainous operations to high-speed main line freight and passenger trains, including plenty of local shortline services.
Today, North Carolina railroading is mostly the realm of CSX and Norfolk Southern with NS’s ex-Southern main line running through Charlotte and Greensboro (along with numerous other secondary lines) and CSX’s ex-Clinchfield in the mountains and SAL and ACL main lines near the coast.
North Carolina railroading also features several museums and tourist railroads such as the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer which is home to the largest still-standing roundhouse at 37 stalls.

The North Carolina General Assembly passed a bill and incorporated the Town of Weldon.
Ownership of the property that contained the house and orchard of William Weldon descended to two of his granddaughters, and in 1819 the guardian prepared to sell 100 acres of land at Weldon's Landing for the girls benefit.
It was amid this growth and prosperity that Weldon became a town.

The company marched to Camp Carolina, on July 17, where they were instructed in the fine art of warfare and remained there until the company left for the Carolina coast on September 2, 1861.
Perhaps the most distinguised regiment in the Confederate Army, the 26th North Carolina was organized in Raleigh, North Carolina in the late summer of 1861.
