The path stretches around the ‘arm’ of South West England, from Minehead in Somerset to South Haven Point near Poole in Dorset.
Walking holiday operator West Country Walks is extending its portfolio of trips to cover the spectacular 140-mile section through Somerset and North Devon, with a choice of accommodation and daily luggage transfer arranged.
Many events are being co-ordinated by the South West Coast Path Association, a voluntary organisation with 3,500 members world-wide; others by the conservation charity The National Trust, which owns and protects 478 miles of the route.

South of Gull Rock one chances upon another interesting hut - this one is called "Hawker's Hut" and is built of driftwood and roofed with turf.
From here to Beeny Cliff the path is reasonable but then drops precipitously to a very narrow path round towards Pentargon where it drops again for a waterfall and a debilitating climb out and up to the ridge above Boscastle and a view of the odd little natural harbour.
In places the path is close to field boundaries and some of the dry stone walling is of exceptional quality.

The tradition of walking the South-West coast path in an anti-clockwise direction springs from there being more miles in total with the wind and weather behind you than against you.

Improvements to the South West Coast Path and to its official website will be ready in time for the May Bank Holiday - despite the recent retirement of two veteran Coast Path guardians.  The changes will further enhance the opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy our stunning coastal scenery, heritage and wildlife.
The official South West Coast Path website www.nationaltrail.co.uk/southwestcoastpath is already proving immensely popular - receiving some 6,500 visits a month only six months after its launch.  Several new features have just been added and will be just a mouse click away from this weekend.
In January the Coast Path at Menabilly was undermined and three small bridges were damaged.  The Path has been realigned and a boardwalk constructed over marshy ground.
