 About SEAC...
The Southeastern Archaeological Conference (SEAC) was founded in response to the tremendous increase in federally-funded archaeological work in the Southeast during the 1930s.
Participants were asked to send other members their descriptions of proposed pottery types well in advance of the conference and to bring with them "representative material", so that discussion would focus on matters already familiar, "not the introduction of new facts or ideas".
Attendance at the annual conference remained relatively constant during the 1960s and early 1970s, and it was not until the 1974 meeting that attendance greatly exceeded 100.
