 Southern Crescent Route
So today it is simply The Crescent, a train which, in fact, has more in common with the former Southerner than with the former rCrescnet.
In 1979 it was sort of merged with the Southerner, as noted above, and this train of combined identities was known as the Southern Crescent, a name which was meant to reflect each of the former trains.
As an addendum to Tom Underwood's paragraph, the "Southern Crescent" was the result of the combining of "The Crescent" and "The Southerner" in early 1970.

The Silver Comet carried the Jacksonville cars as far as Hamlet, NC where the secondary train, the Sunland, took over for the overnight run to Jacksonville, with no food service.
The Silver Comet was a direct competitor with Southern Railway's Southerner.

The Southern Crescent A History of Good Service
The train was consolidated with the "Southerner" and renamed the "Southern Crescent." The train offers dining car service between Washington and New Orleans and reserved reclining seat coaches and sleeping cars between New York and New Orleans.
Today's "Southern Crescent" is the lineal descendant of the "Washington and Southwestern Vestibuled Limited," inaugurated in January, 1891, by the Richmond and Danville Railroad along the "Piedmont Air Line Route." This Washington-Atlanta train was soon nicknamed the "Vestibule" because it was the first all-year train with vestibuled equipment operating in the South.
After July of 1926, the "Crescent Limited" was pulled between Atlanta and Washington by Southern's new green and gold heavy Pacific locomotives, each decorated with a gold crescent on the cylinder and the train's name emblazoned on the tender.

 Southern Crescent Passenger cars
That was when the streamlined Crescent and the streamlined Southerner were merged into one train.
When Amtrak took the train over in 1979 the name "Southern" was dropped and it became known simply as the Crescent.
The original Crescent,(called the Crescent Limited) 1926, was a heavyweight train and I suppose some of the cars could be found in the books listed above.

Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt says his council simply did not have enough time to organise funding for a proposed subsidy of the Southerner passenger train service.
The Otago Regional Council says a lack of financial commitment from local councils has forced it to abandon a subsidy deal that would have seen an Australian company operating the Southerner passenger train.
Shadbolt says the timetable for coming up with the money was simply too tight.

Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt has welcomed the government lifeline thrown to the threatened Southerner train service.
The Southerner was due to stop running next month, but the government has confirmed it is prepared to put money in to help keep the train service going until the end of February.
Shadbolt says that will give more time to look at options for rail travel in the south and the reprieve has come at a good time.

Crescent (Amtrak) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The train was also rerouted southwest of Atlanta, Georgia, following what had been the route of the Southerner rather than the Southern Crescent (which used Atlanta and West Point Railroad, Western Railway of Alabama and Louisville and Nashville Railroad trackage past Atlanta, running via Mobile, Alabama).
The Crescent is a passenger train operated by Amtrak in the eastern part of the United States.
Before Amtrak took over the route, a train called the Southern Crescent was operated by the Southern Railway, a predecessor of Norfolk Southern, from Washington, DC's Union Station south to New Orleans.

 THAT BECAME - REVIEW
Tim Blake Nelson brings a real poignancy to the character, nicely balanced by Arquette, as the younger brother who suddenly finds himself irresistible to women, and doesn't seem to understand it's because he's offering them a ticket on the Yankee gravy train.
Nelson does a minor variation on the twangy, down-home Southerner routine he's perfected in movies like "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and "Holes." Director Schleppi keeps the audience at a distance from the characters; there's no sense of what's going on inside their heads and hearts.
When their doting old mother passes away in the night, the brothers' biggest concern (aside from the burial of course) is finding a new woman to take care of them.
