 Tobacco Factory building history
UK Architect George Ferguson bought the Tobacco Factory in 1995 to save it from the fate of its grander neighbours on the Raleigh Road Imperial Site in Ashton, Bristol, for which he had a dream to turn into “a one million square foot thriving mixed use ‘urban village’ prior to their senseless demolition”.
The Franklyn Davey and Co building, named after one of the smaller Bristol tobacco companies taken over by Imperial Tobacco Co in 1901, was built in 1912 to the design of architect Sir Frank Wills, the son of HO Wills the second, Chairman of WDandHO Wills.
Sir Frank was Lord Mayor of Bristol and knighted in 1912.

Issues surrounding the prescription of psychotropic drugs for people with learning difficulties are highlighted in a newly completed research project, Medication Matters, by Dr Jackie Rodgers and colleagues at the Norah Fry Research Centre at the University of Bristol.
The research team will be holding a local community seminar as part of Ask About Medicines Week at the Southville Centre, Beauley Road, Southville, Bristol on Wednesday 3rd November between 12.30 and 1.45pm.
The project was carried out in partnership with Home Farm Trust and Aspects and Milestones Trust between July 2003 and September 2004.
