After the U.S. acquisition of the Southwest, the trail helped open the region to U.S. economic development and settlement, playing a vital role in the expansion of the U.S. into the lands it had acquired.
The eastern end of the trail was in the central Missouri town of Franklin on the north bank of the Missouri River.
The section of the trail between Independence and Olathe was also used by emigrants on the California and Oregon Trails, which branched off to the northwest near Gardner, Kansas.

Since, LRT and BRT require a minimum of 30 feet and the trail 10 to 14 feet, sufficient space exists within the Southwest Corridor for both the trail and transit.

 Ben Tyler Trail
This popular trail is named for Ben Tyler, who lived with his family in the gulch that bears his name.
The trail also offers spectacular views to the north and south from its high point, and the changing colors in September, particularly in the large aspen groves in Ben Tyler Gulch, are outstanding.
The Craig Park Trail junction is marked by a sign indicating the Craig Park Trail to the left (east), and the Ben Tyler Trail to the right (west).

 North Carolina Coastal Paddle Trails
At the intersection of Lockwoods Folly Trail and Sheep Island Gut, Lockwoods Folly Trail follows the northern shore next to Sheep Island and crosses to the southern shoreline at the point across the creek from the Marina.
The trail follows a route eastward along the southern shoreline the first two miles where it then crosses over to the northern shoreline for the next mile and then crosses back to the southern shoreline and intersects with Davis Creek Trail at 3.5 miles.
Near the intersection with Howells Point Trail at its 2 mile point, Howells Point Trail crosses near the inlet at which point it may be safer to beach your canoe and portage across the rough waters of the inlet to Lockwoods Folly Trail.

The completion of the Woods Trail segment was made possible by acquisition of 905-acre Jacques Ridge by Mid-Pen and Santa Clara County in 1995.
Mid-Pen's Woods Trail is a dirt road that starts at the junction of the Limekiln and Kennedy Trails high on the ridge in Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve.
This is a shady trail in the afternoon, a cool alternative to the sunny English Camp Trail.

The Green Trail begins near Hemlock Ledge, heading toward the southwest from the Yellow Trail.
Upon entering the Sawdust Pile after leaving the Wilcox Trail, the Wo-Jack Trail can be found to the left (east), while the Green Trail also proceeds straight ahead (southwest) and soon ends at the Southwest Marker, where the Red Trail also ends.
To the left, the trail heads southwest to meet the Red Trail at the Sawdust Pile; to the right, the trail runs in a northern direction back to the Green Trail's starting point near Hemlock Ledge.

Most of the trails mentioned in the Inline Skating in Minneapolis-St. Paul page are good for bicycling, with the exception of the HHH Metrodome.
This trail is supposedly slated for development as a light rail transit line sometime in the future.
This means that we'll probably be able to enjoy it as a bike trail until 2050 or so, given the current state of political decision-making.

Nearby is the starting point for the Dutchman Trail, one of the most well used trails into the Superstition Wilderness.
Canyon Lake: A few miles further, the trail begins to bend sharply as the land becomes steeper, and passes along the shores of Canyon Lake, one of four formed by damming the Salt River, the course of which runs right through Phoenix but is dry for most of the year.
Further south, there are more marinas along the lakeside before the Apache Trail climbs steadily for 15 miles through more cacti-covered hills and past a few small settlements towards Globe.

 History of The Old Spanish Trail
Well-documented Spanish expeditions that led from Santa Fe to central Utah, along the eastern half of the Trail, include Juan Maria Antonio de Rivera in 1765, the Dominquez-Escalante party of 1776, Manuel Mestas in 1805, and the Arze-Garcia party of 1813.
Several famous journeys were made along the Trail, from west-to-east, including one by Kit Carson and Lieutenant George D. Brewerton in 1848.
In the 1850s and 1860s, portions of the Trail's eastern end were mapped by U.S. government expeditions, while the western portion of the trail witnessed Mormons heading to California.

On the downhill side of the trail approaching Telluride, the steps are challenging because you’ve got a wheel off the ground at times, the trail itself is very steep, and in spots, it isn’t much wider than the truck!
