Off the beaten path, I recommend going to Treptower Park to see the Soviet War Memorial, with the pinnacle--the monument of the Russian soldier clasping a child to his chest with one hand and holding a swastika-shattering sword in another hand.
This Soviet War Memorial is located in Treptower Park in East Berlin, and that's where 5,000 Russian soldiers are buried.
Treptower Park is a popular place for Berliners to hang out on the weekend.

 HappyBeagle.com: A Daytrip to Berlin
From 1946 to 1949, the Soviets built a gigantic memorial to the Soviet dead of World War II in Treptower Park, in southeast Berlin.
I'd been here before (but hadn't taken pictures) — on my first visit, I found it almost over-the-top kitschy, but my attitude was subsequently tempered by finding out that this is not only a memorial, but a gravesite — about 5,000 Soviet soldiers are buried here.
Since this was my seventh visit to Berlin, I'd already seen most of the "usual" tourist spots — museums, the Brandenburger Tor, the Bundestag — so I spent my time visiting some of the places I'd never quite gotten around to.

Memorial Details: Sowjetisches Ehrenmal in Treptower Park, Berlin (Soviet War Memorial)
It is located in the heart of the calm gardens of Treptower Park close to former East Berlin's embassy quarters.
The most spectacular element of the memorial is towering up in the rear end of the park on a grassy hill.
It is a mausoleum on which a ten to twelve metre high bronze statue is placed depicting a bareheaded, heroic, Soviet soldier wielding a sword and standing on a smashed swastika, into which the sword is deeply cut.

A casual observer might think they're about to undergo a heroic charge, but the more knowledgeable viewer would realize the only practical use for such a formation in a modern war would be a firing squad, which is something the Soviets used from time to time.
The main monument in the park is currently being renovated.

In the heart of Treptower Park lies the Soviet Union's memorial to its fallen heroes of war.
Reportedly known by some Berliners as Hungerharke (Hunger Rake), the Luftbrückendenkmal stands outside the airport in a small park type area.
Situated on the site of the workers strike of 1919 led by the revolutionary luminaries of Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxembourg, the monument is more of an arena of remembrance than one specific statue.
