And then it confronts their statements with those of a veteran from the Sovietunion's war in Afghanistan.
What really impressed me was the way, the movie manages to keep you from judging these guys for what they did.

He ruthlessly sacrificed millions of his own people in order to drag it into the 20th century, where it was faced by enemies on all sides.
Contrary to Hitler he did what he did to leave behind a stronger Sovietunion, not to a have a whole continent turned into slaveholdings for the benefit of a single nation.
Stalin may be a paranoid megalomaniac but without him Hitler would have probably beaten the Sovietunion and we'd still be under Nazi rule.
