The reaction was quite measured at first, but then it, little by little, these countries began to stress the necessity of returning to constitutional rule, and this reaction, foreign reaction played a very important role.
There were, I would like to stress that the Central Government of the =SovietUnion, the =Vice-President and the =Cabinet of ministers does exist.
The =President was not in a position to carry out his functions, but I would like that the other countries take this into consideration and take this into account.
Of course, when it came down to it the Socialism as practiced in Stalin'sSovietunion had not much to do with the ideals mentioned above.
On German universities some historians openly teached that the Nazi worldview was wrong...that was not without risk, but in Stalin'sSovietunion nobody dared, it would have been suicide).

The film consists of interviews immediately after their return to three - if i remember rightly - men and one woman who served in the war.
And then it confronts their statements with those of a veteran from the Sovietunion's war in Afghanistan.
What really impressed me was the way, the movie manages to keep you from judging these guys for what they did.

Bigger Monster Hitler or Stalin? [Archive] - SpaceBattles.com(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
He ruthlessly sacrificed millions of his own people in order to drag it into the 20th century, where it was faced by enemies on all sides.
Contrary to Hitler he did what he did to leave behind a stronger Sovietunion, not to a have a whole continent turned into slaveholdings for the benefit of a single nation.
Stalin may be a paranoid megalomaniac but without him Hitler would have probably beaten the Sovietunion and we'd still be under Nazi rule.
