The third submarine of the class, the Weller, was commissioned on 10 July; the fifth, the Sheean, was launched on 1 May, and the sixth and final submarine, the Rankin, is to be launched this May. The Sheean and the fourth submarine, the Dechaineux, are to be given an interim--but expensive--upgrade before entering active service.
Destroyer production has now switched to Hyundai, which is building three considerably larger KDX-II destroyers for delivery between mid-2003 and mid-2005, when it is hoped to switch to building a 7,000-ton Aegis-equipped class.
Of the latter class, the Gelibolu (ex-USS Reid [FFG-30]) was transferred on 1 January 1999, the Gökçeada (ex-USS Mahlon S. Tisdale, [FFG-27]) arrived in Turkey on 27 September, and the USS John A. Moore (FFG-19) is to be transferred this year to complete a sextet of the class in Turkish service.

 Sovremenny Class - Project 956
The Sovremenny Class is a Russian class of destroyers designed to engage hostile ships by means of missile attack, and to provide warships and transport ships with protection against ship and air attack.
The late units of the class, designated Project 956A, are modified with the improved SA-N-17 (Grizzly) surface-to-air missile and the 3M-82 Moskit anti-ship missile.
Destroyer #610 ""persistent", the flagship of the Baltic Fleet, was built in Saint Petersburg on the northern shipyard.

Suspicions were recorded, but it was not confirmed that "SS-N-22" actually referred to two different missiles until after the fall of the Soviet Union.

It was ramjet-propelled (though launched by a small solid-fuel rocket), armed with a 300-kilogram warhead, and was carried by later-model Sovremennyy-class destroyers, Tarantul-class corvettes, and several smaller warships.

The Russian-built destroyers, however, have been eclipsed in media reports by the next generation of advanced Chinese surface ships: the Project 52B and 52C class destroyers, much-modified versions of the Luhai design, with some shaping of the superstructure to reduce radar signature, bulwarks at the bows, and single stacks.
The first of the KDX III-class destroyers was ordered in August 2004; the three ships of this class are expected to enter service as early as 2008, 2010, and 2012.
The first of the class, Mistral, is expected to enter service in 2005; the second and final ship of the class, the Tonnerre, is expected to follow in 2006.

Although significantly larger than the preceding pair of Luhu-class destroyers, the new ship is less well-equipped, aside from doubling the number of antiship missile launchers to 16.
The term "frigate," like that of "destroyer," has lost most of its military meaning to budget politics, and several of the most significant frigate programs now or soon to be under way are for ships that will displace more than 6,000 tons.
In addition to building its destroyer series, the South Korean Navy is planning construction of a new fleet escort frigate class, details for which have not yet been announced.

Japans Kongo-class destroyers are almost a carbon copy of the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers that have become the backbone of the United States Navy.
These destroyers replace the older destroyers which relied on separate missile launchers carrying eight missiles each (both the ASROC launcher and Sea Sparrow launcher carried eight rounds each).
Japans destroyer force also has done a lot of training in anti-submarine warfare, something important given Japans reliance on maritime trade, but training time is often limited.

Originally planned as a 'KOTLIN' type (Project 56) destroyer, she was converted while building and completed to the Project 56M design as a Bol'shoy Raketny Korabl' (BRK; Large Rocket Ship); she was the first BRK and served as a test platform for the missile systems.
One of the later Sovremennyys, built to a modified design, this ship is one of the newest of her class and one of the most modern ships in Russian service.

The steam turbine used in the main engine of this class is suitable for extended high-speed voyages, and this class has very high endurance, three times China's Luda class and twice the Luhu class.
The first Sovremenyy-class destroyer completed fitting out at Severnaya and sailed to China in early 2000, and was expected to enter commission at the end of 2000.
News reports in Taiwan suggest that a total of four Sovremenny destroyers will be purchased by China, although the source of two additional ships of this class is not apparent, as only additional unit remains under construction with delivery slated for the Russian navy.

However, if the object in question was a single-man Stinger launcher, or a huge SA-2 missile site, it looked rather strange to have your missileman morph into a burned out shell of a truck, or an entire missile site morph into the said truck.
The bug with the missileman was fixed by simply removing him from the game when destroyed.
The SA-2 site now goes to its proper "destroyed site" graphic; however, the side effect is that it is not now considered a normal "SAM launcher" by the game.
