 Soyuz TM
Soyuz TM-13 and TM-14 crews were reshuffled extensively due to commercial seat bookings by Austria and Germany and the necessity of flying a Kazakh-born cosmonaut as part of the Baikonur rental agreement.
Soyuz TM was a modernised version of the Soyuz T with new docking and rendezvous, radio communications, emergency, and integrated parachute/landing engine systems.
Soyuz TM-32 was a fresh lifeboat for the station; the Soyuz TM-31 crew themselves would return in Soyuz TM-31, which was at the end of its rated in-space storage tie.

Sandcastle V.I. - Spaceflight Directory - Project Soyuz
Soyuz is basically a ferry craft to the Russian space stations, Salyut and Mir, and three major variants have flown, 40 of the original type, 15 of the Soyuz T type, and (through July 1996) 23 of the Soyuz TM type.
In 2000, Soyuz operations transitioned from long-duration flights to Mir (last flight April 2000) to ferrying crews to and from the International Space Station (first flight October 2000).
The flight of Soyuz 11 also ended in tragedy for the Russians when a vent in the Soyuz craft opened during the crew's return from a successful first mission aboard Salyut 1.

 Soyuz TM-19
The test was related to the difficulties Soyuz-TM 20 and Progress-M 24 experienced during their automatic approaches.
Both cosmonauts and Doctor Valeri Polyakov (arrived on Soyuz TM-18) became the 16th resident crew; many technical problems with the station arose during this mission, necessitating a previously untried manual supply dock by Malenchenko.
This book adds a lot of insight into how the Soviet and now Russian Space programs developed and refined Soyuz.

Currently, Mir operational costs amount to US$250 million annually which include costs related to four flights of Progress cargo vehicles (about US$35 million each), two Soyuz missions (US$40 million each) and ground support (about US$30 million).
Serebrov, a retired Cosmonaut and veteran of 4 space missions and over a year in flight time, currently serves as Advisor on space issues to President Yeltsin's Administration, as well as President of the Russian Aerospace Society "Soyuz," which just celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Ideas such as Serebrov’s were likely the impetus for the Russian Space Agency’s request (and subsequent withdrawal in early November 1998) to change the ISS orbit, prior to the Zarya launch on 20 November 1998, to align it more closely with Mir’s.
