HistoryLink Essay: Space Needle -- A Snapshot History
The Space Needle, a modernistic totem of the Seattle World’s Fair, was conceived by Eddie Carlson as a doodle in 1959 and given form by architects John Graham Jr., Victor Steinbrueck, and John Ridley.
The concept for the Space Needle was born in Stuttgart, Germany, when in 1959 Seattle World’s Fair Commission chair Edward E. “Eddie” Carlson dined in a restaurant atop that city’s broadcast tower.
The Space Needle’s scale and novel shape were originally accented with a garish paint scheme, including “Orbital Olive,” “Re-entry Red,” and “Galaxy Gold.” During the Fair, the tower’s base housed an exhibit devoted to “Dentistry Through the Ages of Man,” and the top house peak blazed at night with a giant natural gas torch.

Space Needle moved to strike the declaration on grounds that it contained inadmissible hearsay that is not proper evidence on summary judgment under CR 56(e).
Finally, the court held that Space Needle was not liable for failing to warn Kamla of the moving elevators because the hazard presented by the elevators was obvious.
Space Needle admits that it retained authority to enforce safety measures, that it controlled the elevator at the time of the accident, and that it could have shut down the elevator before Kamla's accident.

Space Needle has a couple of trademarks that it employs on this record, which include starting a variety of songs in a very quiet, almost inaudible way ("Where the Fuck's My Wallet?," "Hyapatia Lee") and using ray-gun-like feedback.
If Space Needle could take the length of its pop flops and apply that to their tedious, extended musical passages, they could create a record that has explosive dynamics across the board.

While the future the Space Needle predicted (it helped inspire the look of The Jetsons) never happened, and the age it came from passed long ago, it remains a beloved symbol of Seattle and an icon of a bygone belief in a late-industrial, pre-computer tomorrow.
The revolving, donut-shaped dining room evokes what was considered wondrous in '62: Space Patrol uniforms on the servers, fine suits and dresses on the clientele, rich paneling on the walls, rich food on the tables.
In its 35th year, the uniforms and the decor have become more commonplace (the walls are now as grey as the view on an overcast winter day; the ceiling has that speckled-relief effect made infamous by suburban condos).

OLYMPIA, Washington (CNN) -- A photograph of the Seattle, Washington, Space Needle was found by U.S. forces in Afghanistan, but state officials have been told there is no credible evidence that a terrorist attack is being planned, Gov. Gary Locke said Wednesday.
Locke said state officials were told last week about the photograph, which captured the top half of the Space Needle from a distance and appeared to be a "tourist picture." No documents or other evidence indicating that the Seattle landmark might be or might have been a target were found, the governor said.

Clarke and Konstantin Tsiolkovsky: Construct a colossal elevator in geosynchronous Earth orbit and attach it to a tower on Earth.
The Space Elevator concept is a structure extending from the surface of the Earth to geo-stationary Earth orbit (GEO).
