Space grant fellowship program -STATUTE- (a) Award of fellowships; guidelines; wide geographic and institutional diversity The Administrator shall support a space grant fellowship program to provide educational and training assistance to qualified individuals at the graduate level of education in fields related to space.
Space grant fellowships shall be awarded to individuals at space grant colleges, space grant regional consortia, other colleges and institutions of higher education, professional associations, and institutes in such a manner as to assure wide geographic and institutional diversity in the pursuit of research under the fellowship program.

Each consortium is based in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia or Puerto Rico and consists of multiple independent institutions, with one of the institutions acting as the lead.
Space grant colleges are not to be confused with land-grant colleges (a program instituted in 1862), sea-grant colleges (instituted in 1966) or sun-grant colleges (instituted in 2003).

Created in 1991, the Nevada Space Grant Consortium is a cooperative program of the University and Community College System of Nevada (UCCSN) and one of 52 affiliates of the national network of NASA Space Grant programs.
The UCCSN's community colleges have also benefited from the Space Grant Consortium through the expansion of their science and math programs and clubs as well as the creation of opportunities for collaboration.

Research Grants from the Montana Space Grant Consortium are intended to help Montana Consortium faculty develop nationally competitive research programs in the fields of aerospace sciences and engineering.

The Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) is a coalition of five Virginia colleges and universities, NASA, state educational agencies, Virginia's Center for Innovative Technology, and other institutions representing diverse aerospace education and research.
Internships are open to high school, community college, undergraduate, and graduate students majoring in the fields of geography, technology, civil engineering, and other areas with an interest in developing their skills in spatial data technology in support of NASA’s mission.
Virginia Space Grant Consortium is funded in part by a NASA training grant.
