 Mike Stuart Span / Leviathan
Nevertheless, the esteem in which the Mike Stuart Span are currently held by collectors of vintage British psychedelia is palpably out of proportion to the overall quality of the band's vinyl output during their chequered exsistence: of the four singles issued in the Span's name, two are ignored whilst a third is actively avoided.
The band were left in a profound state of shock and the Mike Stuart Span subsequently became a resolutely drug-free zonedespite the blandishments of the encroaching psychedelic era.
Without the support of all four band members the project floundered, and by the time that the documentry A Year In The Life was broadcast in late September 1969, the group had gone their separate ways.

The parallels between the bands are numerous: both updated traditional British folk material with rock arrangements, both featured an excellent female lead singer (Sandy Denny for Fairport, Maddy Prior for Steeleye Span), both frequently employed multi-part harmonies, and both mixed original and traditional songs.
One thing that differentiated Steeleye Span from their counterparts was that Fairport came to traditional folk from a rock background, whereas Steeleye traveled in the opposite direction.
While Steeleye Span played folk music, they had no aversion to playing it loud, and this version of the band proved that it was possible to create an energetic ruckus without a drummer.

Although the folk rock phenomenon of the Dylan-influenced Byrds and the bands that spun off from them, this blend of traditionally lyric and rock instrumentation is something comparatively unknown to them.
And then this happy, funky rock band jigs on to the stage singing about milking girls and witches and handloom weavers and everyone gets so happy that all they want to do is to get up and jig about.
It is a question of the attack of the band, which has a power that plugs right into the electric energy of our age and makes the archaic stories of many ballads performed sound as they came from yesterday's headlines.

These data are acquired by setting the spectrum analyzer to zero span with a bandwidth the same as the resolution bandwidth set during DGPS signal acquisition (generally 300 Hz).
In this case, it is the frequency of the DGPS signal being measured (as opposed to the peak power across the span as determined in the type 1 acquisition - see Appendix A).
