Evaluation of intra- and interspecific divergence of satellite DNA sequences by nucleotide frequency calculation and ...
The monomeric unit of current Sparidae satellite DNA consists of the eight subrepeats in the order EFFFFEEF as noted previously (14).
The geometric means of six Sparidae fishes are calculated for each position and plotted against the nucleotide sequence.
Subregion E of the Sparidae satellite DNA may thus serve as a window for recombination with respect to sequence homogenization.

Size selectivity of hooks in a Portuguese longline fishery targetting "red" sea breams (Pagellus acarne and Pagellus erythrinus) was studied.
Pagellus acarne and Pagellus erythrinus dominated the catches along with two other sea breams (Sparidae): Diplodus vulgaris and Spondyliosoma cantharus.
Species diversity was lower than in the previous "white" sea bream longline selectivity study (BIOECO/93/004), but catch rates were much higher; reaching 20-30% (number of fish per 100 hooks), with total catches of up to 60 kg per 1200 hook set.

Apart from preserving this beautiful coastline from urban development, the TNMP also functions to protect part of a marine ecosystem and its biodiversity from human disturbance, and furthermore, provides refuge for exploited species with the aim of improving their stock status outside of protected area.
The TNMP has been found to be central in the range of a number of endemic fishes of the family Sparidae that are under tremendous pressure in the line fishery.
Many of these species are severely depleted - a situation which is partly caused by their longevity, slow growth, sex changing characteristics and high market value.

Retention and in situ detectability of visible implant fluorescent elastomer (VIFE) tags in Pagrus auraus (Sparidae).

This satellite DNA is located in a subtelomeric position in all 48 acrocentric chromosomes of these species.
