Mr Barker was referring to Twopenny and Sparkenhoe - two of the most famous bulls in the history of the English Longhorn breed.
Sparkenhoe was bred by Colonel Inge in 1860 and won the Royal Show in 1865.
So in 1865 Sparkenhoe was considered a great curiosity and became the main attraction in the cattle lines for sightseers.

Around 60 ten year olds from Sparkenhoe Community School in Leicester will be treated to a magical performance conjured up by Severn Trent Water’s education team and Midlands based theatre group Malarkey.
Derek Allder, Severn Trent Water’s education manager explained, “The play is very much in the style of a Pantomime in the sense that it has goodies and baddies as well a chance for the children to shout out and join in.

Next to us on Sparkenhoe Street, was Mr Johnson (Jonty) the cobbler, then Whittakers' fruit shop, Pitchers' cake shop, a Post Office, and lastly Tantums, the newsagents where we bought all our birthday cards.
Beyond Tantums were the railings of the gardens leading to the front entrance of the workhouse (later known as Hillcrest Hospital).
On the opposite side of Conduit Street and Sparkenhoe Street was the Prince Albert public house and between there and Gartree Street a very nice row of houses with front gardens.

At the bottom of Sparkenhoe Street there was a row of small shops – Bamfords the butcher, Whittakers the green-grocers, Halls fish shop, Coles bakery, and opposite, Gearys the chemist, whose windows were resplendent with large bottles filled with brilliant jewel coloured liquids.

By the end of the 19th Century the conditions at 'Hillcrest' and the 'Poor Law infirmary' were so overcrowded and the buildings were in a bad state of repair that the Guardians of the Poor decided to move the 'Poor Law Infirmary' to Evington, on the outskirts of Leicester.

150 guests gathered at the award-winning Sparkenhoe Theatre in Leicester to see architects, clients and contractors recieve their awards which recognise excellence in regional architecture.
Steve Major, chairman of the awards shortlisting panel, said "It was encouraging to discover the wealth of pleasing and competent recent architecture from all parts of the East Midlands Region".
At the region's recent AGM he reported that in this year's RIBA Awards the East Midlands had picked up two awards, one for the Sparkenhoe community theatre in Leicester and the second for the Pen Green Centre for under fives nursery in Corby.
