		The File Manager always opens each folder in the same location with the same size, shape, color, and arrangement it had when you last closed it.
		With GNOME File Manager you do have the option of using this type of file management but it is not the standard behavior.

		Nautilus is increasingly tending toward being a light-weight file manager in the MacOs Finder philosophy.

		The whole thing about spatiality is to provide the user with a real-life-alike interface that keeps objects' state and does not alter the contents of any physical object if not ordered to.
		It's really hard to use a spatial file browser if someone keeps his or her files in a ten-folder-deep structure.

		Filie was an open source project that aimed to implement a fast spatial file manager for MacOS X. The Finder in OS X prior to 10.4 made it increasingly difficult to browse spatially, partially due to conscious design decisions, partially due to bugs or side-effects in/of certain features.
		While Filie was a Cocoa application written using xCode on MacOS X, a lot of the file management stuff relied on Carbon for the heavy lifting, so we used to be interested in knowledgeable developers of either conviction.
		If files aren't marked as being under the GPL, they aren't, and you can't assume you may use them, even if they are not password-protected.

		The file manager was perfected with Norton Commander and all of it's clones.
		Anything further from an idea file manager I couldn't imagine, it is almost identical the role Windows Explorer plays in Windows, but manages to use even more resources (I never thought I would see the day when a UNIX program would out bloat a Windows program.
		Spatial browsing is fine too, and if they find it irritating, which they may after a while, you just have it open files in the same window.

		Ever since the GNOME hackers decided that Nautilus, the file manager in GNOME, would sport a spatial way of working by default, the word "spatial" has been in just about every other mailing list or review of the desktop environment.
		The OO metaphor, after long debates, seem to be the easier of the two, for new users to learn how to use - it abstracts the need to understand the filesystem and allows for the concept of directories to be understood better.
		The GNOME Desktop has started breaking down the myth of the "average user" and the "power user" and instead focusing on "good defaults and elegant interface design makes software better for everyone to use, regardless of their level of experience", and drastic changes like this is only going to push the open source desktop further.
