		Spaulders are one of the most common elements in modern reenactment armour, yet most fall short of replicating the shapes and appearance of those depicted in history.
		Though the spaulder, in its popular form, is thought of to be multi-cultural and common everywhere at that time, it actually developed and reached its peak in England almost to the exclusion of other areas.
		Spaulder representations that may be construed as leather virtually vanish at this time, so it will be assumed from here on that they are iron unless specifically noted otherwise.

		His spaulders have an interesting variation, featuring two visible lames and what may be tabs of leather projecting from beneath his aventail, which are speculated to mimic French fashion of the time.
		This is what his spaulders appear to be made of also, a style that diverges notably from his English contemporaries, though at least one other very similar example is known on the continent at the same time period.
		His spaulders are of the typical form, though it is interesting to note that the curvature of the lames is shown in reverse to all other examples shown here.

		The reason 1500F/815C is listed as the quench temperature is that the plates will cool off some in the few seconds it takes to open the kiln, grab the plate with tongs, and drop it into the quench tank.
		If I was going to build another set of carbon steel spaulders I would use 0.050 inch 1050 Carbon Steel and temper it to 600F/315C instead of 660F/350C.
		The reason for the changes is that they would be much less likely to dent when used in SCA rattan combat.

		The lames for the spaulders were all cut to fit together pefectly (in theory) with the 2 thicknesses of material (somewhere around 1/8") removed for each successive lame.
		In the first picture one of the spaulders is planished (mostly) and one is not, you can definitely see the difference.
		I used a tab of leather at the top to point through to maille or gambeson, and strapped for around the bicep area.

		But again i ask (with a new twist XD), what about the magic ones, should they have enhancement bonus to ac or against a crit(like ac enhancement bonus for magic armors), or should they be treated like normal woundrous items?
		* Armor bonuses to spaulders cost the same as getting +X armor, but it only applies vs. confirmation of criticals, and it maxes out at +5 just as with armor.
		This could well mean that someone with +3 armor and +3 shoulder pads is going to be nigh-impossible to hit with a critical, but it doesn't make him invincible.

		I only have plate spaulders so far though, and those are in fl (for when I play a darkelf).
