		Spawn is artist Todd McFarlane's contribution to the venerable genre of the anti-hero.
		The main problem with Spawn is that it is almost impossible to sympathise with the protagonist, as he is not a likeable character in death or in life.
		Spawn is a farely entertaining romp, although it has little to no lasting effect upon the viewer.

		The special effects are not bad at all, but the movie suffers from the overinflated billing of these special effects; if the studio hadn't overplayed their hand by naming this "the special-effects movie of the year" 1997, all of the computer animation would have been scrutinized less completely by moviegoers.
		Spawn's living armor is capable of extraordinary things, as is his vintage red cape, but some of the effects are a tad rough around the edges and all of them look and feel cinematic rather than truly realistic.

		As seen in this movie, he can do just about anything: fly, heal, create armor, use eye-beams to remove things from peoples' bodies: there's no rhyme or reason to it; whatever he needs to do, he is able to do in some way that's visually cool but not necessarily logical.
		Hearing the childlike excitement in his voice as he comments on the final battle sequence between Spawn and the Violator makes it clear that this is not just a business for McFarlane: he truly loves this stuff.
		SPAWN is an SFX spectacular, and if that's what you want, you'll be very happy.

		I personally think that the first one was great, for a super-hero movie that is, but if McFarlane made a second film this year, in the twetith century then it would spawn a whole new generation of spawn fans.
		for example, when the hulk movie first came out everybody at my school got as much hulk merchadise as they could, they even bought the older comics (which is somthing you rarely see kids doing these days), and when spider-man came out, same thing happened, same with X-men, and daredevil, and probably the punisher too.
		The Spawn script tried to angle it as a film noir with spawn just as a living urban legend, but it ended up as "Sam and Twitch: The Movie," so revision and setbacks are keeping it backed up.
