It's always good improving languages and being able to be understood in the global village, but pls singaporeans don't loose yr singlish, it's part of your identity, name it a slung or whatever but don't become british, it's just not fair.
However, it is worth observing, there is a general consensus even amongst the spanish speaking community (and if you think english speakers are mangling their language, you should try deciphering latin American spanish into lets say either castilian or Andalusian spanish, you pengshan ah)- when all fails revert to neutral spanish.
Aug 3, 2006 4:08:30 PM the real reason why everyone should support the "speak good english" campaign is because if one is not able to speak 'good english', the fault is assigned to the speaker as being nonchalant enough to ignore their grammatical errors.

Apparently when the school was first started with a handful of students, the sons of local businessmen, English superceded Mandarin after a few months, and became the sole reason that parents sent their children there.
If English were to be spoken well, even if spoken simply, it must start with the government institutions which deal with the public.
Once the frontline staff communicate only in good English, members of the public will be forced to upgrade their speaking skills and insist that their children also speak properly, as that is seen to be required in government and public bodies.
