		For all the claims about "dated" '80s sounds from rock purists, it should be noted that the basic guitar/bass/drums lineup of rock is almost 25 years older than the catchy keyboard lines and electronic drums making the music here.
		That such a sound would eventually become ubiquitous during the Reagan years, spawning lots of crud along the way, means the band should no more be held to blame for that than Motown and the Beatles for inspiring lots of bad stuff in the '60s.
		David Gahan undersings about half the album, and Martin Gore's two numbers lack the distinctiveness of his later work, but Speak & Spell remains an undiluted joy.

		During the tour for the album, Alan was announced to have officially joined the band.
		This album featured a selection of songs from the previous two albums and their associated singles, in addition to "People Are People" and "Get The Balance Right!" (which wasn't released on any album).
		The next album would be the ironically titled Music For The Masses, which was preceded by the singles of "Strangelove" and "Never Let Me Down Again." The title was intended as a joke about how the band had never achieved any kind of widespread popularity.

		Coconuts, a rhesus, danced openly to the kitschy fist- pumper "Goodbye Violet Race" while "Diapers" tapped her toes to the tender "Almond Kisses" (although this was later revealed to be a result of the presence of the unknown variable "Michael Stipe" on vocals).
		Yet, after repeat administering of The Chinese Album, the lab monkeys quickly lost interested and were found to only truly enjoy it, ironically, after large doses of cocaine.

		It is understandable to keep the first disc the way the artist intended the original album to be but in an ‘expanded’ format that ends up only shortchanges the user since they will now have to turn on the DVD player, the TV and navigate through menus to access the bonus tracks.

		Once again I am put into a situation whereas the only option for me downloading the album is either A) go to a sharing network and steal it, or B) have a friend in the U.K. purchase it for me, then strip out the copy protection so I can play it.
		I was sifting thru my photo album from the 80's the other day and found ticket stubs from 19 DM shows I had seen.A DM show was the very first place I drove to after geting my drivers license.

		Actually the kr-55 was not a programmable drum machine, and it seems that speak and spell drumlines are no presets (I heard some of the preset of the kr-55).
