Speaker for the Dead -- 1593974760 (Audio Renaissance.com)
Imagine how different our world could be if we had Speakers for the Dead to share the true, unadulterated story of our lives - someone who would not glorify the dead, but simply remember their essence and encapsulate that essence in words that educated and moved and inspired others.
Andrew Wiggin, Speaker of the Dead, sets off for Lusitania where he hopes to repair the lives of two of families on Lusitania and solve the mystery of the piggies.
The very idea of a Speaker for the Dead is incredibly moving and to have Ender, the slayer of the buggers, fill this role proves even more powerful.

Speaker For The Dead is meant to be a standalone book, which means you do not have to have read Ender's Game to understand what goes on in the book.
However, Speaker For The Dead is a sequel in the sense that some of the background is needed from Ender's Game or Ender's Shadow to get fully what the book is talking about when it refers to Ender the Xenocide and Peter the Hegemon, and so forth.
In Speaker for the Dead, a new alien race is discovered on a small colony on the planet Lusitania.

And while Speaker is the perfect sequel to that story - how Ender deals with the realization that the Buggers weren't his enemy - it has to be told in a much different fashion.
Due to his constant travel across the galaxy serving as a speaker for the dead, traveling at great distances that in reality take several years, but for him only a matter of days, it's now 3,000 years since the Bugger Wars and Ender is no longer a real member of human society.
This is the story of how Ender becomes a human being again, after the years of isolation at the battle school, and now after his own self-imposed exile, traveling through the stars too often to become a part of any human community.

Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card - Book
The book Speaker for the Dead is one of the most outstanding and exciting books I have ever read and I encourage anyone who enjoys a book that makes them think to read it.
However Speaker for the Dead is written on a much higher level and takes much more time to read than Ender’s Game.
The "Speaker for the Dead", was a remarkable book that took my mind not quite as far as I thought "Ender's Game" did, but to a certain degree it took me just as far.

Reading Orbit, OCSFC Book Club: Ender’s Game and Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card
This is what it means to be a speaker for the dead: the speaker speaks the subject’s life; a life not known by those who believe they knew the subject in life.
Both of these functions, I would maintain, serve to extend the definition of “human”: in telling the story, the history, of another I recognize this other as a subject like myself; in speaking for them after their death I tell the unknown truth—something, again, which can only be done about “an-other” subject.
Already at the beginning of Speaker For the Dead we have a questioning of the division between human and alien.

Although a much slower and thoughtful story, Speaker for the Dead is undeniably brilliant.

Speaker for the Dead - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This book takes place 3,000 years after the events in Ender's Game, although due to relativistic space travel Ender himself (who now goes by his real name Andrew Wiggin) is only about 35 years old.
Speakers for the Dead are the wandering representatives of a Humanist movement (not a religion, though they are treated with the respect accorded a priest or cleric); they research the dead person's life and give a speech that attempts to speak for them, describing the person's life as he or she tried to live it.
The Speaker explains how Novinha blames herself for Pipo's death, and underwent a life of suffering and deception--marrying Marcão so that they could both avoid the stigma of singlehood in a Catholic colony, but secretly trysting with Libo--because their love for each other never truly died.
