In 2001, Carers Victoria established Speakers Bank, a database of carers who are willing to share their stories and experiences with the community in order to raise awareness of the needs and issues facing carers.
As a general rule, speakers will be asked to assist within their local area, but there may be special events from time to time occurring in the Melbourne metropolitan area, where speakers from outer metropolitan or rural areas may be asked to be involved.
Carers wishing to participate in Speakers Bank must attend an induction session, as it is important for participants to be aware of their rights and responsibilities, and to be supported in their role as a speaker.

As such, the Bank must have a presence in North America to inform and respond to the constituencies in a timely manner, and ensure that it is a participant, not a spectator, in events and decisions that could impact the Bank and its DMCs.
The Bank's Emerging Asia seminars were very successful and similar outreach activities could be used to disseminate, for example, the findings of assistance relating to the currency crisis.
