  Species
By convention, species are always given in italic text and in lower case, and always with the genus they are classified in, either in full, or if previously mentioned, abbreviated.
A morphological species is a group of organisms that have a distinctive form: for example, we can distinguish between a chicken and a duck because they have different shaped bills and the duck has webbed feet.
Moreover, boundaries between species are often fuzzy: there are examples where members of one population can produce fertile offspring with a second population, and members of the second population can produce fertile offspring with members of a third population, but members of the first and third population cannot produces fertile offspring.

The movie thinks that a lot of kinky sex, copious amounts of gore, and a complex and arguable plot can save it from its own lack of focusing on "the chase," and it fails as a result.

Species begins with the premise that the information contained in Human DNA is packagable in a few kilobytes, transmittable as a radio signal, and "reprogrammable" by an alien civilisation.
Species II manages this, perhaps unintentionally, by depicting the alien Ross as a being without a shred of mercy---there is no ambiguity in this character.
Species II could've been developed more, the dialogue could've been less hokey, and the acting could've been better, but I suspect a large portion of the movie's budget went into the effects, which are realistic enough to pull off the "in your face" scenes.

INKPOT MOVIE REVIEWS: SPECIES (Rebecca Wan)
But where SPECIES stuck fairly closely to the "predator aliens are destroying us one by one and have to be stopped" type of storyline, SPECIES II is plagued by a ratty plot that trips over too many loose ends, loses its way and degenerates into a wan mix of erotica and grotesque imagery.
SPECIES II is singularly mindblowing for its perversity.
The latter in SPECIES is configured as destructive and physically repulsive, culminating in the disfiguring death of the mother, even as the child alien is born.

Movie Review - Species 2 - eFilmCritic   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Species was about a beautiful girl, Henstridge, who was really a hybrid form - a lethal combination of alien and human DNA who desperately wanted to mate with a male member of LA county so it could propagate and thus take over the world.
Species II replicates all the same plot moves, all the same character types…(and if you've seen Scream II then you know the 'rules of the sequel', so there's no point going further).
Half an hour in, one character exclaims after being exposed to another's internal organs: "Oh God, this is terrible!" This is the kind of self-consciously camp line that begs some wag in the audience to heckle the screen: "No it's worse than that".

 filmcritic.com Movie Review: Species
On the surface, Species is something like a new version of Alien taking place on Earth.
Species starts out with an interesting idea: that an alien civilization would radio us a plan to genetically engineer a new (and far superior) race, which would inevitably destroy us all.
Needless to say, a somewhat thoughtful film was not what I was expecting out of Species, and sure enough, by the time the second hour rolls around, the film degenerates into a formulaic search and destroy movie.

It was one of the biggest blunders ever to befall a horror franchise, tragic in the sense that the series was pretty much doomed before it even had a chance to blossom.

 Species III (V) - Movie Review | BLOODY-DISGUSTING.COM
The movie ran in at over 1 hour and 50 minutes, which is extremely too long for a direct-to-video movie, this was one of the only major downfalls of the movie.
There were plenty of useless scenes the movie could have done without, for example: In one scene Sara is out looking for her special “mate” and strolls through a group of high school kids partying.
There was a little reminiscent of another movie floating around in ‘Species III,’ sometimes it felt like I was watching the great ‘Re-Animator.’ I’m not comparing the two films in any way shape or form; it’s just that the level of gore and the “style” of gore were quite similar.

Although the lack of financial backing was evident, the movie provided a good 2 hours of entertainment, but i think they should take the next species movie to this "Alien" home world, and have Hr Giger on board because he could add some intersesting mythology to the whole species legacy
So its better then 2 and about as good as 1 species was never a good series of movies (especialy the second one) but species 3 has just enough to make it worth a rental and nothing more.

In movies such as this, there is no such thing as depth, no one has an alterior motive, duplicity is unlikely, and dynamism is impossible.
The theme of the movie distracts the audience's attention from what's going on: rather than getting scared by any of the several tense scenes, the focus is on how long it will be until somebody takes their clothes off.
