The Eurasian Teal is a far rarer, less-than-annual visitor to Hawai'i, and like the Green-winged Teal, tends to occur during the winter months.
Drake Teal of both species are usually easily identified in adult plumage by the vertical white stripe on the front of the flanks on Green-winged and the horizontal white line on the inner webs of the outer scapulars, appearing as a white line above the flanks on a resting bird, in Eurasian.
At rest a Green-winged Teal in amongst a flock of Eurasian may appear much darker and this could be due to the denseness of the vermiculations of the feathering, particularly on the flanks, back and mantle.

Birds of the Falkland Islands - Speckled Teal (Anas flavirostris)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
The Speckled Teal is the smallest of the Falkland ducks, being found throughout the Falklands in ponds, streams and creeks where it feeds on aquatic invertebrates and vegetation.
Nesting begins in August, with 5 to 8 eggs being laid in a grass nest hidden close to the water.
The Speckled Teal may easily be confused with the larger and much less common Yellow-billed Pintail, but the Speckled Teal has a shorter neck, a more rapid flight, is less timid, and is often seen in small groups which the Pintail is not.

Red Shoveler (A. platalea), and Brown Pintail (A. georgica) was recorded, and the behavior of brood-tending males and females was observed, during parts of three breeding seasons, November-December, 1985-1987,on various wetlands in Buenos Aires Province and in the vicinity of Bariloche.
Our observations suggest that pair bonds may be long-term in Silver Teal and perhaps in some Speckled Teal, but males deserted their brood-tending females in Red Shoveler and Brown Pintail.
We emphasize that behavioral observations are needed to determine whether males associating with broods are really contributing to parental care in Southern Hemisphere Anas species.

I am currently investigating the relationship between two closely associated species, Speckled Teal and Monk Parakeets, during their reproductive periods and the resultant behavioral adaptations exhibited by the teal.

Paired males also engage in forced extra-pair copulations (recorded in 21 of 37 Anas species to date) and in some species these may be important secondary reproductive strategies.
Polygamy does not occur in holarctic species, probably because each male is unable to monopolize more than one female in synchronously breeding populations with male-biased adult sex-ratios, but bigamous behavior has been observed in captives Or three southern hemisphere species (Cape Teal, A.
Opportunities for males to hold two mates simultaneously may occur in wild populations of such species because extended and/or irregular breeding seasons are likely to produce asynchrony in the breeding and molt schedules of individuals.
