The typical warblers are small insectivorous birds belonging to the genus Sylvia of the Old World warbler family Sylviidae.
These are active, constantly moving, warblers usually associated with fairly open woodland, hedges or shrubs.

The acacia trees and bushes around Ye'elim Holiday Village are well-known as a regular spot for Arabian Warbler as well as Masked Shrike, Palestine Sunbird and Arabian Babbler.
A track to the right at the 53km marker-post to the north of Yotvata kibbutz leads to more fields with migrant passerines including Spectacled Warbler and Oriental Skylark, and possible pratincoles, courser and even Houbara Bustard.
Still further north at a sewage farm near Shizzafon on the Beer Sheva road, sewage farm has Crowned Sandgrouse visiting to drink in the mornings although their appearance cannot be guaranteed.

 Tropical Birding tour report Sichuan China April-May 2006
This is one of China's most special endemics and we were glad to complete the set of pink and mauve warblers (with the White-browed Tit-warblers we had seen several times earlier on the trip).
It was great to watch these unique warblers glowing pink, while feeding in the tall, dark and dense snow-draped spruce trees.
Could have stolen the show for warblers on most trips (if it were not for the enchanting White-browed Tit-warblers recorded on this tour), as this is a really nice one.

Spectacled Warbler (first winter), Tresco, Isles of Scilly, October 2000 - the forth record of this Sylvia warbler in the UK, and the first record for the Isles of Scilly.
Spectacled warblers are found in the Mediterranean countries.
The reddish brown wing feathers (greater coverts and tertials) which distinguish this species are apparent.

Don’t be confused by the presence of the white eye-ring by which it gets its name, since Whitethroats also have pale eye-rings.
In size and structure they are more like Subalpine Warblers than Whitethroats but even the brightest Subalpine Warblers don’t have such rusty wings with prominent fl markings in the tertials.
Spectacled Warblers have a distinctive call, a loud, hard stuttering rattle sometimes described as like a rattlesnake but I remember it as recalling a Mistle Thrush.

The fairly long, white-edged tail is also a useful feature as is the obvious white eye-ring which together with the raised crown feathers often gives the Whitethroat a startled appearance.
The White throat may be confused with a Spectacled Warbler but the Whitethroat has more contasting terials.

The first 9 of the trip ticks (like Black Kite and Hen Harrier) did we note while driving down to the Massif Central along the toll road.
There, new trip ticks were a/o Goshawk, Black Woodpecker, Water Pipit, Dipper, Alpine Accentor, Olivaceous Warbler, Firecrest, Red-backed Shrike, Alpine Chough.
The latter was a serious dip for our British friends, but we lucky Dutch look back at the time it stayed for months on top of our university building in Amsterdam...

The Sunday morning was spent at the Summer Palace, among its breathtaking scenery of lakes, willow trees and ornate bridges.
Numbers such as over 100 Yellow-browed Warblers and over 70 Pallas' Warblers were at first considered remarkable, but soon were accepted as typical.

Highlights: Zino's and Fea's Petrel, Little Shearwater, Ring-billed Gull, Roseate Tern, Spectacled Warbler and Rock Sparrow, and of course all the Madeiran specialities and several cetaceans.
Highlights: Besides Trocaz Pigeons (24 on 15th), Zino's Petrel (3 heard at the breeding ledges on Pico de Ariero on the night of the 18th/19th), Cory's, Little and Manx Shearwaters, birds of particular note were Brambling, Sand Martin, Great Skua, Arctic Skua and Spectacled Warbler.
Species such as Great and Pomarine Skua, Barn Owl, Common and Pallid Swift, Willow Warbler, Starling and Siskin was also seen.
