A mast is a man-made support structure, commonly used on sailing ships as support for sails, or on land as radio masts and towers used to support telecommunication equipment such as radio antennas ("aerials" in the UK).
Skyscrapers are often referred to as towers and some towers use the term mast.
The Petronius Compliant Tower is an oil platform standing 2100 ft or 640 m (to the top of the spire) and is the tallest non-guyed structure in existence but is mostly underwater.

Also, many large electrical towers or wind-turbine masts are of an unclear classification.
Towers and buildings with masts on them (that are a hybrid) are in their own list.
Two shorter towers may be a better option the one taller one, for example, or a higher tower might not be useful if the signal is blocked by terrain nor if all the listeners are in a concentrated area and a higher tower cannot pay for itself.

There is often crossover in term usage as some skyscraper use the tower term, some towers use the mast term, and ironically 'skyscraper' has some word heritage from references to high sailboat masts.
Top masts are ranked by pinnacle height; in the case of a tie, the older structure is ranked as higher.

There was one 330 ft self supporting tower..the original tower when the station went on the air in 1939 and three 225 ft guyed in line towers.
The NDA daytime ran off the self supporting tower and the 10KW DA critical hours ran off the two end guyed towers and the self supporting.
I filed for and was granted 900 watts day, NDA on 580 using the self supporting tower and 250 watts with just two towers...one of the guyed ones and the big self supporting tower.
