Speech disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Speech disorders, or speech impediments as they are also called, are a type of communication disorders where 'normal' speech is disrupted.
There are various causes of speech impediments, such as "hearing loss, neurological disorders, brain injury, mental retardation, drug abuse, physical impairments such as cleft lip or palate, and vocal abuse or misuse." However, in many cases the cause is unknown (1).
Those with a speech disorder can be targets of bullying because of their disorder.

Speech therapy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Speech therapy is the corrective or rehabilitative treatment of physical and/or cognitive deficits/disorders resulting in difficulty with verbal communication.
This includes both speech (articulation, intonation, rate, intensity) and language (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, both receptive and expressive language, including reading and writing).
Speech and language therapists (SLTs) or speech-language pathologists (SLPs) provide a wide range of services for all ages, in early intervention (ages 0-3 years old), preschool, primary and secondary schooling, home care, and hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and nursing homes.

Speech disorders may be problems with the way sounds are formed, called articulation or phonological disorders, or they may be difficulties with the pitch, volume or quality of the voice.
Speech and/or language therapy may continue throughout a student’s school years either in the form of direct therapy or on a consultant basis.

Increasingly, speech scientists and surgeons have converted to using the term VPD in place of the older and more entrenched term VPI (Loney, 1987; Folkins, 1988), which can be confusing because various authors use it to connote velopharyngeal insufficiency, velopharyngeal incompetence, velopharyngeal inadequacy, or velopharyngeal incorrect learning.
Speech and language pathologists are particularly adept at sorting out the components of a communication disorder and their respective weights, which frequently dictates what receives surgical attention, not whether it receives attention.

Watching Gates and the rest of the group practise the breathing techniques that enable them to control their speech, and go through a series of exercises that help them grow in confidence, it becomes clear that there is a natural bond between them.

If you think Joe had some sort of speech impediment, then find some evidence that he stuttered, stammered, or repeated words from questions, at any other time other than his testimony at the inquest and of course, it would be best if the situation is one that would be hard pressed to call stressful.
That means just because someone has a speech impediment you should not conclude they are likely to have experienced some major traumatic event in their past history.

What I am saying is that Leanne is attempting to make a claim that Barnett had a speech impediment based on the coroner telling him that his testimony was well done and not claiming that for others.
The articles that you are presenting are all talking about people who suffer from a speech disorder and they refer to it as stuttering rather than saying a fluency disorder that presents itself as stuttering and they are correct--stress does not cause a speech *disorder*.
Speech and language research shows this not to be the case so they are now emphasising that even though normal people stutter only because of stress, that is not the case with people suffering from a stuttering disorder.

And while you’re at it, why not ask David E. Kelley what pressure was brought to bear on him to censor an episode of his series – one supposedly devoted to the issue of free speech.

I have seen a speech pathologist to find out more about this but there is nothing known on the matter and it seems as though she is not taking me seriously.

People have very bad memories, and if a speech has been boring or complicated or both, they will remember even less of its content and only recall how terrible it was.
Okay, you shouldn’t give a speech in the same casual style you might use to tell a story to your friends in the changing rooms at the gym or the 19th hole at the Golf Club.
Memorize the speech as well as you can, but don’t worry if you forget the odd “and” or “but.” If you say “er” and hesitate slightly now and again, it will make your speech sound more natural.

Jill Harrison, a speech language pathologist at the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, says many patients tell her their dreams of becoming a pilot, a doctor or a lawyer were dashed because they feared their stutter would prevent them from communicating adequately.
Harrison, who has been working with patients with the impediment for almost 30 years, says some are able to hide their difficulty in speaking from co-workers and others by using techniques like word substitution, where a word that is easier to say is used over one that may be more appropriate.
