For U.S. speedskating's future, the best news came after the 10,000, when Hedrick quit hedging about his future and said he would remain in the sport through the 2010 Vancouver Games.
Her seventh-place finish was the best by any U.S. woman in long-track in Torino, and at 25 she's considered young for a distance skater.

The frame they produced for themselves was so quickly in demand among their friends and fellow speedskaters that production expanded exponentially, with an agreement being made soon after for Mogema metalworking group to produce quantities of the frame for sale by the Stouwdamsport skate shop in nearby Oldebroek.
