Spelsbury ([ˈspɛlzb(ə)ɹi] or [ˈspɛw-] in the IPA) is a small north-west Oxfordshire (England) village about one mile from Charlbury on a narrow hill between the Coldron and Taston brooks overlooking the Evenlode river and the Wychwood Forest, with a Norman church (rebuilt in the mid 1700s) and a group of almshouses of 1688.
It is recorded in the Domesday Book as 'Spelesberie'.

SPELSBURY, a parish in the hundred of CHADLINGTON, county of OXFORD, 5 miles (S.E. by S.) from Chipping-Norton, containing, with the hamlets of Dean, Ditchley, Fulwell, and Taston, 610 inhabitants.
The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Oxford, rated in the king's books at £9.
On an eminence near the village is an extensive triangular intrenchment, called Castle Ditches, enclosing a space of about twenty-four acres.

I was born in the village of Spelsbury so there my story begins, it lies in that part of Oxfordshire where the Cotswolds begin, that first long sweep of rolling hills, in an area roughly triangular.
Kelly's Directory of Oxfordshire describes Spelsbury as "A village on the Evenlode with the hamlets of Dean, Ditchley, Fulwell and Taston forming a parish in the Banbury division of the county, hundred and petty sessional division of Chadlington, rural district, county court district and rural deanery of Chipping Norton, arch-deaconry and diocese of Oxford.
On this occasion there happened to be an exhibition in Spelsbury Church of "Old Spelsbury" all sorts of facts and figures were on show together with old photographs, ancient parish registers, but, to my delight a reprinted edition of Miss Elsie Corbett's "History of Spelsbury".
