The spetsnaz are different in being dedicated to one or more types of covert special operations and in receiving specialised training in the intelligence gathering (razvedchiki), long-range reconnaissance patrols (iskatelia), abduction (okhotniki), foreign raids (reydoviki), partisan support, sabotage and assassinations.
A spetsnaz brigade has between 1000 and 1300 men and is trained to operate either as a single unit or in a number of sub-units to a maximum of 135.
